ATI Catalyst 10.3b Preview

None of us should have ANY issues. Period. The only common thing is the Cypress-based cards; even the problems vary from person to person. Yikes.

The stupid thing is that I just keep throwing money at the problem. I have two extra complete rigs now, and no need for 'em. Gave a whole Crossfire 4870 rig away, even, and a couple of cards to members here. There's nothing wrong, except that these gpus suck.

No, just the Cypress-based cards. I've never had such a problematic card, ever. Having a set of 4870's and a set of 4890's further complicates it.. I could have the same performance putting those 4 cards together, and none of these issues. I kinda wish I gave the 5-series cards away. But no eyefinity, so I patiently await a fix.

Just installed this, Hydravision is pretty freaken cool!

*edit*

Also finally ATI drivers are not bitches, I didn't even need to restart : ]

Didn't bother to disable/un-install a thing either.

Just download and run.

Sweet : ]

I might sound like a n00b, apologies since this is my first ATI card in 14 years - what advantages does this 'Hydravision' entail?

Its new so I don't know it either :p

Big ole post sorry, from the help files.

HydraGrid

You can use HydraGrid to apply invisible grid layouts to desktops in single- and multi-display environments. When HydraGrid is enabled, application windows can be attached to individual cells in a grid, restricting their display to a specific area on a desktop.

HydraGrid preserves layouts on a per-user basis and is designed for window management across large, multiple, or virtual desktops.

Use the HydraGrid aspect to configure grid properties for each of your desktops. The aspect can be accessed using either the HydraVision navigation tree or menu in the ATI Catalyst™ Control Center window. You can also configure hot keys for HydraGrid. For more information, see Hotkeys Manager.
Note: HydraGrid does not affect full-screen and non-resizable applications.

Desktop Manager
Desktop Manager contains options for configuring the behavior of application windows and dialogs in a multi-display environment. With Desktop Manager you can:

* Preserve and restore application window position and size.
* Maximize application windows across multiple displays.
* Reposition application dialog boxes.

Tip: To access the full capabilities of Desktop Manager, ensure you are working in a multi-display environment as not all features are available in a single-display environment.

Multi Desktop

Using the Multi Desktop component of HydraVision™, you can create and manage up to nine virtual desktops, each with their own display settings and background image. One desktop can be made visible at a time while others can run in the background.
Using Multi Desktop, you can also:

* Switch between desktops using a mouse click or hot key.
* Run applications on a particular desktop or all desktops.
* Move running applications between desktops.
* Save, restore, and delete desktop profiles.

Multi Desktop can be configured using the Multi Desktop and Virtual Desktops aspects, which are available only in Advanced View and Custom View. The former contains settings applicable to all desktops while the latter contains settings specific to a desktop.

Provided the Hotkey feature is enabled in the Hotkeys Manager in the ATI Catalyst™ Control Center, you can use HydraVision shortcut keys to access virtual desktops. For more information, see Hotkeys Manager.

Creating Keyboard Shortcuts for Maximizing Application Windows

Use the HydraVision > Maximize page to create keyboard shortcuts for maximizing application windows to different areas of the desktop. A HydraVision™ Maximize keyboard shortcut consists of one or more modifier keys (such as CTRL, ALT, SHIFT) and the Maximize button found on an application window.

For each desktop area listed on the page, select the desired modifier key(s). Once a key combination has been assigned to an area, you can maximize a window to the area by clicking the window's Maximize button while holding down the keys assigned to the area.
Note: Using the CTRL key with the Maximize button for certain Microsoft applications, such as Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer, enables true full screen mode (equivalent to pressing F11). Keep this in mind when assigning desktop areas to key combinations involving the CTRL key.

1. Based on the navigation system contained in the ATI Catalyst™ Control Center window, do one of the following:
* Navigation menu—On the HydraVision menu, click Maximize.
* Navigation tree—From the tree in the HydraVision tab, click Maximize.
2. Select the desired key combinations for each desktop area on the page:
* Attach to HydraGrid—Attaches windows to HydraGrid.
* Entire Desktop—Maximizes windows to the entire desktop.
* Windows Corners—Maximizes windows to the display(s) containing their top-left and bottom-right corners.
* Single Display—Maximizes windows to a single display.
* Eyefinity Preferred Display—Maximizes windows to the preferred display of an ATI Eyefinity display group.
Tip: To prevent application windows from maximizing to a particular desktop area, select Disabled for the area.
3. Click Apply.

You can now maximize windows to different areas of the desktop by using the assigned key combinations with the Maximize button.

Your on-board GPU will be disabled when you have a GPU connected in the PCI/E slots, surely it would be impossible for a driver conflict to happen?

it would be a safer option to completely disable onboard video from the bios. thats what i would do anyway since it minumises the chance of running into driver & IRQ conflicts. its not like you need the onboard video when you have a dedicated card. - same goes for onboard audio - its better to disable it anyway to avoid potential trouble.

then instal 10.3's & be happy!

can u advice me a best driver uninstaller ?

Not personally no, I've not had to un-install a driver for a long while

And before that I simply used device manager in windows.

I only had 2 ATI cards, a 4870X2 and a 5970, They both have issues, but the 5970/BC2 takes the prize, the games runs fine inmap, though every time i have to cycle HBAO and Res to fix flicker and Vsync, but in most online menus i get frequent PC freezes. The gtx295 was stable as a rock, i would get the 480, because they rock performance wise, but their temps scares the shit out of me.
