I'm buying a new PC soon and I've seen one on eBay with this spec:
E8400
HD2400
4Gb RAM @667mhz
500Gb hard disk
Can't see what the motherboard is.

That's the machine, now here's the problem my dad keeps on saying that I'm only allowed to buy a new computer from eBay due to the cost being lower, this poses several problems since It's expensive to get one with a decent graphics card and he says that he won't let me put one in since if I do that I'll void the warranty and my history with computers is not entirely good.
Is the graphics card any good?
Thanks in advance

What is the main purpose for using the computer? If it's for internet browsing the card is fine. If it's for gaming, the card isn't very good at all. The motherboard is an Asrock, which from my experiences are pieces of junk. Tell you dad that upgrading a video card does nothing to a warranty, and if you really want to save money go to an online retailer and buy the parts separately.

I'm in the UK so I can't go to the egg as it's called on here, the computer will be used mainly for gaming (TF2 and L4D when it comes out, otherwise clear sky would be the most demanding thing I'm likely to run.) Upgrading the card not voiding any warranties is good, I thought of building the entire thing but I then thought that I didn't want to do it wrong and I inevitably would.

I will gladly walk you through building it if you can do it!

The E8400 is a good choice for a processor as it runs at 3ghz stock and doesn't "require" overclocking for good results. A ATi HD4850 is a great card for the price. For a good motherboard on a budget find yourself a DFi P35 chipset board. Don't skimp on the power supply either, get something quality like a Corsair, Seasonic, PCPower&Cooling etc.. I suppose it all depends on what is available. Hopefully someone from the UK can chime in on a good place to buy parts. :)

Ebuyer.com's meant to be quite good, still at the rip-off UK prices though. Also I've been forbidden from building it by my dad since he's so convinced I'll get it wrong, although I should perhaps point out to him the fact that he's got the side off his case since his PC kept on overheating, and you'll never guess where he bought it, that might persuade him to let me build one.

He does have a point that when you buy a complete pc, the whole thing comes with a warranty and that can save on a lot of hassle for sure! Just make sure you get a PC with a good video card and a adequate PSU.

I'm not going to be overclocking so the PSU included should be good right?
I was considering getting a mesh PC a couple of weeks ago but now they've stuck about £150 onto all their prices without any change to the spec.

I would not buy that sytem on ebay. If anything stay far away from ebay. The reason it's cheaper is because of the cheap components put into it. The only thing worth anything in that PC is the processor.

Ok, won't be going near that one then, when I was talking about the PSU I meant one in a prebuilt system. I've had a smart idea, buy all the seperate parts and take them into a local computer shop and get them to build it for me, going to be a bit more expensive but it should work. My dad's PC from ebay has the side off it right now, will probably be a good idea to use that to my advantage.
