i know the card works as i have tested it in another pc

im getting...

microsoft kernal audio mixer (code 39)

i have tried sfc /scannow and it doesnt fix it.

i have tried reinstalling drivers and that didnt fix it.

windows updates dont fix it.

i've googled it and see alot of ppl with the same problem but no solution.

any ideas?

I have heard of some people having trouble with Upper/Lower filters that are installed by other software causing trouble with sound cards.Removing these has worked for some.

As far as I remember SB Lives were most famous for their driver problems in the last 2 years. It seemed like it was very hard for someone to find the proper driver for their card. Because there was a lot of revisions of that card and one card's driver didn't do well for another one. Those mostly didn't install or installed, but worked like crap.

I think you had the right driver for it on the other system. Do you still have the original CD for it's drivers and software? You know, that metallic gray CD. I found mine someday but I've lost it again... anyway I've seen people putting the ISO of that CD to the net. Try to search that if you don't have it, Google your SB Live CD.

In my opinion, that card isn't worth the hassle. I mean that sound chip is more then 10 years old. It sounded good back in time and it was able to give RAM to soundfont haha. I put mine back to where it belonged(a cardboard box) in 2006.
I don't know how it compares to a HD onboard chip either. I don't think that it could be THAT better then a modern onboard.

You better throw away that card and get yourself a better cheap or second hand card. An Audigy 2 ZS for a few bucks or a Xonar maybe? 192KHz playback will smoke a Live in sound clarity. A better sound card is worth it man, SB Live in 2010 is a big NO from me to be honest. :)

the card is in my dads PC and its only used for the game port to provide midi support.

neither me or him are going to spend any money on a better card.

this has been functional for 4 years now and all of the sudden its messed up.

the pc hasnt been on the internet at all and has seen very little use at all so its not like something messed it up. it just stopped working one day.

i have found the drivers and installed them. no luck.

its a SB00220 card.

That just happened to me 2 days ago.

I uninstalled all drivers and removed card.
Rebooted.
Installed drivers... inserted card.
And it worked.

I found it strange that this sound card had been working for over a year without me changing anything at all, then all of a sudden I had to do this. P'haps something similar happened to you? It won't hurt to try, good luck.

Well, although I have read a lot of your posts, I couldn't remember about your dad and his PC. I thought that you were about to put it in near your high-end stuff, instead of onboard audio. OK then dude, if the drivers especially for it didn't help, then I really don't know...

But I remember the Game Port not working for me once upon a time. I had to take down the sound frequency HZ in order for my joystic to work in Moto GP. I found that out from step-by-step Windows Help, maybe you should try that hehe... good luck man.

well windows audio isnt working and thats my problem right now.

has nothing to do with the soundcards drivers from what i've read.

clean the contacts on the card? creative support is useless, so if the cards physically bung, you're screwed.

Do you know what model it is? SB live, 5.1, 5.1 DE, live! 24?

0220 is the 5.1 DE (digital edition) according to google image search

you can see the word digital, and the top audio port is multi function - with some gay adaptor they dont ship with the card, you can get coax SPDIF output from it.

creatives website is kinda vague, but only two digital models are referenced.

I can't find the console for this. I'm running XP pro. The ones
I download from Creative don't even find this card. I have the driver
installed.
