I have avast installed already and was thinking of getting malwarebytes. Does anybody have a combo of antivirus software and malwarebytes on their system? Would this cause some compatibility issues and system instability?

Have had both running for few months now with no issues, also peer guardian on top of those, again no issues I know of.

i used both up until this year - now i use bitdefender instead of avast but avast is still very good. no problems as they focus on different things. you could also throw superantispyware in there for good measure.

Just use your avast.
Get malwarebytes (free version) and/or superantispyware (free version) and run them every so often.
You really won't see to much benefit from having them running real-time file checking/scanning, if your Avast is doing it already.
Just my opinion.

Edit:
Just some info... I have tested the compatibility thing; and no, I have had no problem running them together, but just don't run them all at once and expect not to have disk/file access slowdowns.;)

thats fine, but if you install 2 or more and they all run their task at the same time you may feel your pc would slow a little coz they use your resources

I have both, and only run malwarebytes every week or so to do a quick scan, and actually since avast is password protect-able and you can do boot time scans malwarebytes is actually just overkill.

make sure the scheduled scans don't conflict, but the real time is not so bogged really. I often left av + sas on, and only ran mbam when necessary.

that being said, you can feel safe with window security essentials, so it's all a matter of how much protection do you really need. probably not all of them at once.

Avast is fine. Run Malwarebytes as needed.

i use this combo. and i have the active protection enabled for malwarebytes. ?It isnt bogged down at all. dont worry about it.

Ive been using MSE and Malwarebytes for a while now. However been thinking of going Kapersky.

Not in the least. Use whatever works for you. I was just vouching Malwarebytes doesn't conflict with much anything.

No it wasn't directed at you MM but you and I have been around long enough to know something like that will be quoted and the thread will quickly degrade into what is better. Maybe I'm rushing into it. But TPU has gotten more full of new people rushing to prove their ideas and over the years and it pains me to see the change from usefulness to blatant thread derailing. Maybe I'm just too old hat, things change I just hate too see how experience and longevity of TPUs oldest members is cast out for the need for someone to argue for The sake of arguing.

Oh I agree fully. I wasn't trashing anyone use in anyway. Just wanted make that clear I wasn't saying "FU NOOB GOTTA USE WHAT I USE OR YOU'RE A NOOBS". Malwarebytes (not real time) is a great back up scanner and doesn't conflict with much anything. What I was saying (not clearly) is I use MSE and Malwarebytes and no conflict. AVAST I'm sure is the same.

The new members I well........I agree. Lots of know it alls and if you noticed I don't even troll them much. Way to serious and a LOT of bad info.

I can say that i have used Avast for the past 3 years coupled with Malaware Bytes (every 2 weeks) and havent had a problem at all. The other laptop i have at home has Microsoft Security Essentials with 2 week scan from Malaware Bytes as well and still no problems. Personally i have not had any problems with either combination.

Though no computer is safe as long as the user is not careful on what they are doing no matter the protection.

Thanks for the help all. I installed Malwarebytes and so far no problems.
