Although Ive lost like 2 H.D'S over the last 6 years Ive often wondered whats the best way to save some things. There's really nothing earth shattering to save except whats Ive posted but it's just the idea of starting all over ya know.Had my eye on an external simpletech H.D.For the price I thought that would be 1 solution.Granted Im on this pc all the time but not very technically ploished so keep that in mind.I do have a flash drive if that helps, although on alot smaller scale. Raid 1? get 2 hd's to mirror off each other so if one dies you still have all the data on the other one.

Raid

Ya know Ive heard that term before but I think was used in connection with a gaming system. Please explain what exactly Raid is or what it does. What kind is a good 1.Will it fit in 1 of my expansion slots providing I have another one. Will have to check, cant remember.TX

Raid 0=data striping (better throughput), raid 1=redundancy....the two most often used raids in normal pcs.

Raid1 mirrors the data from your HD to another HD, you need 2 of the same harddrives and a raid controller to be able to do it. most motherboards have a raid controller on them that I have seen anyway.

Raid0 is for speed and it splits the data between 2 harddrives so games load faster elc.. raid0 just mirrors from one drive to the other.

you need to find out if your mobo has a raid controller.. if not I think you can buy a pci slot raid controller for $40+.

Im new to this stuff and Im not sure if your mobo has a raid controller built in.

I hope Im making sence cause Im dead tired lol.
