i currently have a 500w Antec PSU which is sufficient for my rig but i am planning to buy another one that will give me room for upgrades in the future. The only thing is that i need a bit clarification.

Here goes;
-
if i buy a 750w PSU does it mean that the PSU is delivering such high voltages as soon as i switch it on?? or does the wattage just mean what it is capable of delivering if it is loaded to that extent? If the former is the case then a 1000w PSU is like an electric water boiler permanently on :eek:
why i am asking this is that electricity is expensive here in Denmark and i would want to know if i should upgrade higher than the 500w i have now without having to pay astronomical electric bills.

I have always assumed that a 1000w PSU can just deliver a fraction of its power a case that the rig needs just say only 200w out of it, hence not delivering the rest 800w, am i correct?

I don`t think that a 750 w psu runs at 750 w all the time, but I also read that as a general rule the higher the rated wattage the more electricity the psu WILL consume.
