It's been quite a while since I last played Battlefield 2142 and just recently I decided to reinstall it and start playing again. Only problem is, that when I double click on a server to join or when I try to go into my Audio settings in the Options, the game would crash back to my desktop. I'm currently running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit and was able to play the game perfectly fine before on it. So I don't know what could be causing it to crash when I double click on a server to join or when I try to get into my Audio settings in the Options. So I did a couple of trouble shooting by uninstalling the game completely from my system then reinstalling it in the following order:
1. Battlefield 2142
2. Patch 1.40
3. Northern Strike
4. Patch 1.40
5. Patch 1.50
6. pbsetup.exe to update PunkBuster
You have to install in that order to be able to play on Northern Strike maps, if you didn't know that already. But after doing all that, the game still crashes when I do the things that I mentioned above. I started thinking that it could be my sound card drivers, hence the game crashing when I try to get into my Audio settings in the Options, so I completely uninstalled my current drivers and installed the older drivers that came on the disc for my sound card. But that didn't solve my problem, the game still crashes when I do those things. I then tried older drivers for my video cards, but that didn't help either. Then I tried running the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2. But now everytime I try to launch the game, I get a pop up saying to insert the game disc even though it's already inserted. So right now, I have absolutely no idea what could be causing the crashes when I double click on a server to join or when I try to get into my Audio settings in the Options. If you think it's Admin issues on my system, it isn't because I'm the only user on my system and I even made a new Admin account and deleted my old one. Could it be a hardware issue, like my hard drives for instance? Because I have a RAID 0 setup and have probably formatted my system 3 times since the last time I played Battlefield 2142 with no problems. Could it be that they're corrupt somehow? Would getting a new hard drive fix my problem?
