Beyond Good & Evil 2

Do you want this game to ever come out so that you can finally play it? I don't want it. It's too weird from what I've seen and it's nothing like the first Beyond Good and Evil which was a great game imo. Back in 2008 it was announced that BG&E 2 had been in pre-production for a year. Now here it is 15 years later and Ubisoft claims that the game hasn't been cancelled and is still in development. That's 1 year more than the widely criticized Duke Nukem Forever which was said to be in Development Hell for 14 years. Here is a timeline of the various announcements on BG&E 2:

Want or don't want game is dead I think. I was a kid when the first one came out and I had a blast with it's cartoonish design and characters. The second one looks SOOO different. I don't even know how they will tie the two together. I'd watch an animated film though. I mean that pirate space ship in the trailer...huh...that's some Harlock Space Pirate vibe there....

I don't think BG&E 2 will ever see a release either. I honestly don't know why Ubisoft doesn't just cancel it if they are indeed continuing to sink money into it.

No, they would make it far, FAR worse than the original.

See the original came out in its own time. Not today. Today you will get an uninspired 'reimagining' with the mandatory 'must put my inclusive stamp on it to sell, because people said so' and that's where it all goes down the drain: creative freedom will be tweaked. When the original came out, that didn't happen. It just didn't. Originality and creativity were in fact praised - and 'daring' things would be point of discussion but not outrage.

I'm not anti anything, I think society develops as it does, its not, or at best only for a tiny sliver in my sphere of influence. But I do see a nosedive happening with regard to creative talent, diversity in art is in fact being lost as we strive to be more inclusive. It has become problematic to say a whole lot of things because we're apparently redefining the social interactions we have because some minority asks for it. A lot of artists, comedians, etc are not saying what they used to say for fear of responses/threats. This is a direct result of polarisation which came from social media-instigated nonsense.

We're fucked in the creative sense. Tunnel vision is ahead of us until people start crossing the lines, because that's what art is all about: crossing the lines to get you to reconsider what you're seeing, experiencing. Art doesn't force anything on you, but that is still how some people choose to interpret lots of art these days. Snowflakes can't handle their views being altered, is what that is.

I really enjoyed the original game for its varied gameplay and combat mechanics. I liked the setting, the vibrant graphics and great music. The characters were also memorable, even if I couldn't take them seriously.

However, I was completely put off by the 2017 announce trailer for BG&E 2. The game promised some interesting mechanics, but the lack of further development made me lose interest in it. At this point I don't honestly care about the future of the series.

Like any other game, I'd wait for it to release, watch some streamers play it while I wait for a Metacritic aggregate score, and then look at the street price before deciding whether or not it would be worth paying for.
