BIOS for 4870 1GB

Hiya

I just bought this card http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/g428k/ as a replacement for a dead 8800GTS (RIP :cry:

). It's a Sapphire HD4870 1GB

It was crashing my system a LOT, even playing a DVD, until I downgraded to catalyst 9.7, which seems to have fixed everything except for lockups every time I shut down. I've seen on a few forums that flashing my card might help, but I don't think I can find the right BIOS.

The one I was looking to use is http://techpowerup.com/vgabios/44695/Sapphire.HD4870.1024.090303.html which is apparently for a vapor-x model, which mine isn't. When I try to use it, atiflash tells me the SSIDs don't match and I really don't wanna force it coz the warning is there for a reason I guess hehe, so... could a pro tell me if I'm about to brick my card or what?

Post your system specs or put them in your profile. The card may not be the issue.

Have you uploaded your gpu's bios to your hard drive so you can check out the settings ?

Dont know if you got the card new or second hand but if its second hand then its prob had the settings in the bios messed around with.

You can use gpu-z to upload your gpu's bios & RBE to edit it. Oh & ATIwinflash to flash.

Make sure you know what your doing before you flash in a edited bios.

Sir Real: Have saved a copy of current BIOS to my desktop with GPU-Z. The card is brand new from ebuyer though. I've flashed plenty of things before (mb/router/phone etc) but never edited anything before doing so, sounds scary!

edit: should point out I had no lockups at all with the 8800GTS until it died

Since it is new, it may just be defective and you might need to consider just RMAing.

I had considered that until I tried the 9.7 drivers, but everything seems fine now except on shutdown

dont re-flash a new card mate - flashing your card WILL invalidate your warranty! I would rma the card for sure if the problem persists. I have never flashed a card to 'solve' a problem and i dont think this is your 'solution'

here's a sapphire one but there are hundreds of HD4870 1GB BIOSes in here, maybe try a reference ATi one also.......
