If your running dragon center and updating drivers and so forth through that It might be updating your bios also. As far as actually updating bios I always keep it up to date with the version just below the most recent (most recent tends to be a beta) you never know what they fix half the time.

lol is that actually a option . i would imagine yous send a message and never get a reply

The motherboard maker is always going to say to update to the latest.

I say, when it comes to BIOS updates, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

If your computer is running fine now, leave it alone! Most BIOS updates simply add support for newer CPUs, RAM or other devices that were released since the board came out of the factory.

At least read the change log to see if it addresses a problem you are experiencing.

BIOS firmware is not the same thing as hardware drivers.

do yous know if windows 11 work with my platform with out a bios update . mostly the system runs with no issues just that random usb drop out with external drives but nothing thats a real problem

If you have a dual bios then I see no problem, if not then dont bother, you could brick your board if something goes wrong. Dual bios should be a must for any mid range motherboard, I do understand why low value motherboard dont have dual bios but mid range is a must and the mobo you have is a mid range, however i'm not sure if is a dual bios mobo.

  • If you're running a Ryzen 3000 CPU, you don't stand to gain much performance past AGESA 1.0.0.4 or 1.0.0.6, as long as your Windows and chipset drivers are up to date. Leave it alone.
  • If you're upgrading to a Ryzen 5000 CPU, you need AGESA 1.0.8.1 or later to boot, AGESA 1.1.0.0 or later for decent performance, and probably AGESA 1.2.0.0 or later for optimal performance.
For the USB dropout issues, iirc there have been a bunch of updates that were supposed to fix it. I never really completely had mine fixed, but most of the erratic USB behaviour went away after AGESA 1.2.0.1/1.2.0.2. On a few different boards of mine, AGESA 1.2.0.2 and 1.2.0.3b have been pretty stable without major issues.

As for Windows 11, most of the "Windows 11 support" BIOSes are just for enabling fTPM by default so that you don't change anything in BIOS to be able to boot Windows 11. Windows 11 still has the L3 cache and scheduler bugs on Ryzen CPUs, and iirc no stable BIOS is out yet to fix those issues (not sure what the newest beta AGESA 1.2.0.4 is for, or if the fix will be done entirely in Windows).

You should always be careful when updating BIOS, but I wouldn't worry too much, as long as you have a USB 2.0 drive on hand. Your board has BIOS flashback that theoretically will allow you to recover from a bad flash, just beware that MSI's implementation (and most others) are pretty picky and may reject USB 3.0 drives entirely - I had to go out and specifically get a 2.0 drive.

You said "b450 tomahawk max" but I see a link to the B450 Mortar Max.
