Hello guys.

This is the not first time i get this issue. In year maybe 4-5 time i saw this. But in 2 days i will get this issue almost every 10 min in strong game. Like Witcher 3. I have 181 hours on Witcher 3 and this is the first time i get this error on Witcher 3. Witcher 3 is the not only game. I get same problem on Black Desert Online too. If i lower my graphic setting on Black Desert i will not get this problem. My opinion: the game which is using GPU too much making this problem.

But i will playing both games like over 1 year and i don't have any problems. The problem start 2 days ago.
I didn't change anything. Like drivers or programs. Everything is the same except Windows update. Released 2 days ago.

Let me quick explain this problem. During playing game screen goes black after a few second monitor saying "Signal Lost" but PC still running also i can still hearing the sound. Can't do anything. Also restart button doesn't work too. It's work actually but staying in black screen. I have to turn off power and on again to back my screen.

Also im not sure this problem belongs to graphic card. People also saying this could be a software problem or PSU.

Is there anyway to be sure which one making this problem? Or how can i fix this?

Thanks.

My System:

Fx 8320
R9 290 Trix
16gb Ram
Windows 10 64 bit (1703)
Cooler Master 750W Psu Bronze
Samsung 850 Evo SSD + 3x HDD.

Hi , welcome to TPU.

Did you try connecting the monitor with another cable and/or try different ports?
I don't think it's the PSU, then your system would have shut down.

GPU is possibly overheating. Could also be a psu issue as mentioned

OP can still hear sound, just no display, wouldn't the system not have shut off if it would be a PSU problem?

Thank you. I can't do that. I have only one hdmi port on my monitor and gpu.

Thanks for the answer. I don't think so. Because with default fan speed my core temp is around 76c. Vram1 is around 80-83c. I get this result on %40-45 fan speed. I also tryed %100 fan speed. There is no way to climb 70c+ on %100 fan speed but still get the same problem.

I'm on some test right now. It's too early to talk but witcher 3 is on around 30 min and didn't get this problem YET.

What I did?

You guys know PSU GPU cable right. Normally I use two cable comes from my PSU to connect GPU. But also each cable have two 8 pin(6 pin) output.

Normally 1 cable was enough to feed my 8+6 pin gpu. But i was read somewhere they recommended use two cable.

Right now I'm using only 1 cable.

It's maybe just fortuity. I don't know. But like I said there is no problem at the moment.

I just found out you have another thread running about this same issue:
https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/290-bios-update-black-screen.237037/page-2#post-3725796

Did not read your other thread but how about flashing back the original VBIOS?

Hello thanks for the answer.

I was have this problem. Then i decided to try bios update. But i failed and i opened the post you linked. But thans for the friends they helped me and im going back to my backup bios.
I doing bios update because of this problem.

----------------------------

After playing 30 min Witcher without problem, i played 40 min Black Desert no problem detected too.

Unless the manufacturer tells you to do so, bios flashes on GPUs never fix problems. They don't get "updates" like motherboards.

please fill out your system specs. i quickly glanced at the link posted above and am assuming you have a r9 290? random black screens were a frequent problem on these cards. i got around this issue by modifying the voltage values in the bios using hawaii bios editor, but their is know way to be sure unless you can give us more information. check the event log and see what errors are happening and also let us know what display driver you have. if you dont know how just post a screenshot of gpuz.

good luck

Same here, pal. Same win10 64 bit (1703). Signal lost, black screen, but the program running as I could also hear the sound. The only difference is I got this problem when I used madvr to watch films. My card is Vega56 btw. My guess is either sth with 1703 or some bugs of ATI card drivers. Anyway, they don't work very well together.

If any help, try to update ur r9 290 driver version to 17.7.2 or roll back the driver to older ones, it worked with some of my friends.

@finalKenpachi for the refreshing, switch keyboards out if it stops, then your keyboard controller is shot.

Otherswise switch the card to the other bios and leave it be
