Hi,
I have recently been having very frequent blue screen of deaths. So i started up my virus scanner in safe mode and i see it says 1 error. Boot sector of disk reading error. Cause this possibly be the problem on why i am getting blue screens of death. How do i fix my boot sector. I am running windows vista ultimate 64bit.

boot the vista dvd and choose "fix startup problems" (it may be fix problems that are preventing windows from starting up)

BE CAREFUL.

He says he starts his virus scanner, so he can get into Windows.

If the blue screens are related to the bootsector my guess would be a damage filesystem/drive. However you're better off actually reading the BSOD and checking the cause.

I can get into windows safe mode not actual windows itself, and using the startup disk did not find any errors. Also what is the BSOD.

the error in a bsod is typically like 0x00000(other number/letters) write it down and google it.

Yes that is what my error looks like. Something like that. But how do i rewrite my Boot sector.

sounds like your drive is going bad.

Ok none of that really did anything and i still get the blue screen of death. IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL stop0x0000000A

I see that it could be caused by a virus scanner. Should i disable AVG.

Sorry binsky but I've gotta ask, on another thread you're having linux issues....We're talking a different rig here, right??

disable avg and reset ecsd in the bios. you may also try taking everything but your video card out if you have anything else in there. IRQ problems are hardware problems.

No this is the same machine i am dual booting vista and linux.

Yes this is a different machine. But i am dual booting linux on it.

Thanks, I'm learning here on this one along with ya. My son, whom I won't mention, tried linux and windows on the same machine, was NOT fun. Dual booting can be evil at times... Any gurus on dual booting out there?

Oh ok so i will try to disable AVG and could it possibly be my video drivers.

Hi!
Try out some programs if they run(install)

Partition Table Doctor
or
Active@ Partition Recovery for Windows

(from torrent sites)

I don't know Vista but in XP there is a command "fixmbr" in DOS mode when you boot from the CD!

I don't have much time now but I will check if there is other methods for the fixing!

Best Regards!

Ok i tried disabling my virus scanner but still i get the same error.
