I recently got my new video card (GTX260) which is an absolute beast, and is physically quite large. To be able to fit it in to mys system, it has to lay over the top of the IDE ports on the motherboard. It fits, but only if nothing is plugged in, so that meant I couldn't have my CD/DVD drive plugged in there, so I picked up one of these:

and plugged my CD/DVD drive into that. It all works fine, but it is not recognised until windows is booted, hence I can't boot from my cd drive. This IS only a cheap solution until I bust out the wallet and buy a new motherboard, but I'd just like to know if I should be able to boot from my cd drive with this configuration somehow.

You only need the card after you install the windows, until then use the onboard if possible. The PCI card needs to support boot from it and you also need to change in the bios to boot from Ad-in card.
