Hi,

My wife is bringing her computer from Canada to Sweden. We already know we have to get a new PSU, but the problem is the monitor. According to what it says in the manual, it should be able to handle it (in the specifications) but we want to make sure. She called Samsung and asked but they could not answer for some odd reason. So my question is can the monitor handle it if a new cord is aquired? Does monitors usualy have some sort of internal transformator/converter or whatever it would be called (elecricity is not something I am particulary great at)

The model of the monitor is: Syncmaster 2253bw (Samsung)

Specs according to manual: AC 100 - 240 V~ (+/- 10 %), 50/60 Hz ± 3 Hz

Electricity in Sweden is 230 Volts, alternating at 50 cycles per second

So according to the manual it should work, unless I am more clueless than I think I am.

Thank you for any answers.

you only need the power cord that fits into your power socket, the monitor uses the same power cord as a PSU.
Well mine are the same power cord so i recon they should be the same too

Yep, the monitor should work fine with the correct power cord. You might also get away without having to change the PSU, most either have a voltage switch or automatically detect the right voltage. Post the make/model and we'll see what the manual says.

Thanks for the replies.

The powersupply is: "Corsair TX650W 650W ATX 12V 52A 24PIN ATX Power Supply Active PFC 120MM Fan"

Yep, thats an auto-switching PSU, just get a power cord to suit and that'll work fine.
Universal AC input 90~264V automatically scans and detects the correct voltage Thats from Corsairs own site BTW

According to Newegg your power supply will work for 100-240 same specifications are your monitor. I'm going to assume it auto switches but you may want to check the manual.

Thanks, that was indeed good news.

What parts would you suggest to remove before moving the computer (will be handled by the baggage people). I was thinking atleast the PCI cards, the heatsink for the CPU and the harddrive to keep in carry on to avoid any serious shocks to it.

Aye, those and the graphics card and you should be totally safe from the baggage monkeys. I'd make sure you tell the check in staff what you've got in your carry on, just so they don't get nervous at te bare electronics! Don't forget anti static wraps too.

Yeah she grabbed that a couple of days ago. And I was thinking of that too, with all the bomb scares and airplanes.

Thanks for all your help.
