So i am thinking of upgrading my aging 6700k to the 9800X3D:

Parts i chose:
Mother board: Asus strix 870E-E
CPU: 9800X3D
Ram: need advice of which kit to pick preferebly a 4 stick kit

the rest will carry from current build.

Four dimms will run at a much lower speed. Why gimp your system on purpose?

I use G.Skill ram myself they make really good kits for AMD.

But why a X870-E chipset motherboard, is there any special feature you need like USB4 or USB-C PD charging?

Personally I went B650 because it's really good price and it has the feature I need and for the money saved it could go forward to gpu, psu or just saved.

I recommended the AsRock B650 Steel Legend / WiFi before because of it's great vrm and can handle all am5 cpu's has gen5 nvme and pci-e: https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B650 Steel Legend WiFi/

@Toothless

is that really a thing i looked at the QVL and there was high speed by 4 kits.

@Shou Miko
yeah i want USB-PD and 2 internal usb 3.0 headers plus a type-c header. which was a hard to find on many motherboards.

well, then why you just won't stick with QVL? it's smart. especially if you need "speed" for 4 sticks. also, what is the size?:rolleyes:

Just because it's on QVL doesn't mean it's going to play nice. If you want to ignore people answering your question and go with whatever the QVL says then go for it.

O.K, guess i will give it a hard thought while the 9800x3d gets enough supply to be on normal price.

thanks for all the replies.

You don't need four sticks, even for 64/96 GB.

Read your motherboard manual on your memory. They typically default to a lower speed when 4 DIMM's are used.

MicroCenter "HAD" them at retail price.
