Hey everyone so I want to build a new pc for browsing, standard gaming, solidworks(nothing too heavy) but I want something that would last for some years. I already have hdd, case (midi tower could fit up to atx motherboard) and I want to spend about 400 euros on cpu, mobo, ram, psu.
I have already chosen the intel i5-6500 as cpu so I would like some suggestions on the other parts. GPU is gonna be bought later so there shouldn't be an issue. I would prefer an atx motherboard (probably H170) since I think that its better due to more connectibility like (pci, m.2) etc and 8gb of ram. Psu I think that dhould be about 500-550watt. Feel free to ask me anything in order to help you as much as I can.
Thank you for your time.

motherboard that I think that are good: Asrock H170 Pro4S
Gigabyte H170 HD3

Can you tell us where are you from and what shop you plan to buy from?

I'm from Greece and I could buy from all the Greek e-shops or Amazon Uk

400 euros on cpu, mobo, ram, psu.

Uhmm, thats a very tight budget for these parts...
Not sure if that's even possible.

I have a i5 6500 system myself, check my specs.
I have spent 1812 Euros total building my system.

Since i do not know any greek sites here you go a list from amazon uk:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

So it seems it is possible...:D
I5 6500 alone is 200 Euros in my country...

Just a question since it's my first time building a pc, is z170 worth buying on a non overlockable cpu ?

I bought a Z170 because I might want to upgrade to a K processor in the future.
Also with an older BIOS you can overclock a non-k CPU on a Z170 motherboard.

And the price difference is minimal so I would go for it

Hi there and welcome to TPU.

Personally, the condition of the task is slightly confusing to me : "browsing - OK!, standard gaming- I assume MOBA, etc- OK!, solidworks(nothing too heavy) - not sure about this one - 2D ?"

800 EUR budget. CPU is fixed - i5-6500 ? Aftermarket cooler for the CPU ?
PSU- anything from lower tier Corsair or FSP around 60 EUR, should do ok.
RAM - personal opinion, I'd go for 2133 MHz CL14 . 8 or 16 GB - in this case, I wouldn't worry about the volume that much.
MB: depends exactly what you want. I would say try to get more PCIe x16 line instead of legacy PCI or PCIe x4, x8. At some point you might want to have an add-in card for NVME drive for example.

I guess you know the Greek on line shops better than anyone, so look around.
If you are not in a hurry Black Friday/Cyber Monday is coming in a month or two.

midi tower
Please verify your case. Sadly, there are no industry standards for case sizes. Some times a "midi" is considered the same thing as a "mid" size tower. But other times, a "midi" tower is smaller than a "mid" tower, somewhere between a "mid" and a "mini". I guess it just depends on who you talk too.

My concern is you say your case will support a full sized ATX motherboard. The larger ATX boards can be very tight in a smaller "mid" tower case, and are too big for most, if not all "mini" size cases.

Most "midi" ATX cases will support a full size ATX motherboard, but the problem is some "midi" cases only support µATX or smaller boards, like the Point 001 or the CiT Phaser.

If yours really is a smaller case than most "mid" size cases, a full size ATX board will be really cramped - if it fits at all. I can be very difficult to work in a cramped case when you cannot see through your own hands that are in the way. So a µATX board might be a better choice regardless.

Do you have the model number for your case?

First of all I want to thank all of you for your fast and helpful replies.
I'll try to answer your questions the best I can.
@lZKoce, I'm not planning to do any OC so I think so I chose a non K and I think that the cooler of the i5-6500 box is gonna be fine. You are right aboutthe use I'm planning to do, what I mean by telling nothing too heavy on solidworks is that it's not my main cause of buying this pc so I'm gonna use it for a week or 2 due to a lesson I have in this semester. My main problem is what mobo to use, I think that mATX choices are lacking some pci lanes etc and the safe choice to go is an ATΧ Η170 (just my opinion you can correct me if I am mistaken). About the ram I'm planning to go for 2x4gb ddr4 and if I need some more at the future I could always add some. Thank you for your advice I'll probably wait and see if any sale suits me.
@Bill_Bright, Unfortunately my case is really old and I cannot find the exact model number, but I can state the dimensions of it 19.3x42.5x46 (cm) and I'm planning on upgrading to https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B018J4CDHQ/?tag=tec053-21 in the near future.
I found out about this site today and I'm really excited about how helpful you guys are, the budget is not that strict if there is something that's REALLY worth spending something more I could go for it.

The standard dimensions of an ATX motherboard is 30.5cm x 24.4cm (12in x 9.6in), give or take a little so your case should indeed support a full ATX board.

If me and planning on getting a new case, I would get it sooner instead of later to avoid any problems due to mishandling accidents during the case swap.
I think that mATX choices are lacking some pci lanes
How many do you need? It is true that µATX boards have fewer PCIe slots than full boards, but they all have more than one and with careful homework, there are several µATX boards with two PCIe 3.0 x16 slots.

I am not trying to talk you into getting a µATX board instead of a full ATX. I am just saying don't dismiss them summarily as there are many that will support your stated needs and still provide a very reliable platform for your new computer. One area where µATX boards do tend to be decidedly lacking is in RAM support - most µATX boards only have two slots. So if going that way, to ensure the longest future proofing, I would go 2 x 8GB from the start.

That said, I like to buy all the RAM I think I will ever need during the initial build. While adding RAM, in terms of technical difficulty, is probably one of the easiest user tasks out there, finding compatible RAM at a future date can sometimes be a real challenge - and costly.

Well, Gigabyte is my preferred brand so I think that is a good choice. :)
