What do you think? Good or bad idea? I've been thinking about slightly upgrading my home server's storage that runs on three basic WD Reds, and after ditching the idea of SSDs, which are simply way too expensive even 2nd hand in 2TB or larger capacities, SAS disks seems like the only other option.
Now Ebay is full of this stuff, but it's tricky category. Normally I would never buy used moving hardware, but I'm thinking, if I narrow my search to disks manufactured in the past five years, from sellers with lots of positive feedback, and possibly with info about the amount of hours on record, it shouldn't be a problem... Plus SAS disks should, theoretically, have much higher longevity than SATA.
I found one that sells 4TB Ultrastars 7K6000, 4kn, for around $40-50, which is just perfect.
