Hi,I want to replace the power supply from my PC with another supply . Does it need to be at the same power consumation and model?

My PC is HP PRO TOWER 6005!
Also, what cables should I use for the new power supply?

Can I use the cables from the motherboard if I don't have cables to plug them in?

Can someone give me a list of what cables I should buy?

Hi,I want to replace the power supply from my PC with another supply

I don't think you can just drop in another PSU unfortunately, the connectors are probably HP proprietary....

like P4-630 stated that PSU I believe only comes with 3-4 cables for a specific HP mobo

if it's dead your best bet is simply a replacement for unit make for your PC

something along the lines of this

Why not? Does that mean I have to buy the cables too?
If so what cables do I need for the Power Supply?

you would need an ATX 24 pin to four pin converter for your mobo's power. The main issue is most of the cables are from 3rd party suppliers and vary in quality meaning you can fry your mobo and that will cost you more than a new PSU.

What exactly is the issue you are trying to solve? Do you have a dead PSU? Or do you need more power in your current system?

I don't have a dead PSU,I just want to replace it with another one so that I can get more power.
Also,I need the PSU to have a connection to the graphics card in case the graphics card does not intall on my PC!

It seems that the power supply is locked in the PC. Do I have to unscrew every screw or what do I have to do to replace the power supply?

Your best bet would be the HP forum as I'm sure other people have had a similar issue. Possibly someone may have used their ATX 20+4 connector as just a 4 connector with success or maybe it do it not work at all but that would be your best bet.

Your images are a bit fuzzy but yes you unscrew typically four screws (maybe less on some mass produced systems)

Looks like a 12V only supply, so the 12V standby would be a problem on a normal supply.

Don't need a new power supply for that video card

ATI RADEON HD 8490

So that means I can replace the power supply or not?
what shrek said, the card only pull 35w max and gets all it's power from the pci-e x16 slot. no additional power is needed so you are good to go as is

Some Dells and HP machines will only work with a handful of gpu cards, even if your machine meets the spec sometimes will not work with one brand or the other. Also there are power supply upgrade options you just need one that's compatible with your machine (which means HP branded for use with HP 6005 model), the normal ones are usually 240watts but you can upgrade to a 320watt (unless you already have 320watt).

I want to change the power supply for more power consumation(300-500 watts). Is that possible?

it's hard to tell from your pics because they are fuzzy but it seems you already have the 320w unit

also, what are the rest of your specs? I'm guessing even with the HD8490 you will barely break 125w in total peak power. I think you are trying to solve a problem you don't have

It's not just about form factor, HP does this thing (at least it did with their P4 computers) where voltages were just a wee bit higher than ATX specs, over 13 volts instead of 12.6 max and such, and some proprietary connections. Just keep your current PSU, they are at least better quality than many low wattage PSU in the wild.

Note that I ALWAYS refer to official sources and READ them THOUROUGHLY before posting. In this case I looked up service and parts manuals on the HP website. Many people above me doesn't seem to do the same and seem to do alot of guessing. Just beware.

The HP PRO Tower 6005 only has one power supply variant, the 320w one. No need to worry there. There are no lower or higher wattage ones.
Among the GPUs that HP lets you add to the system, one of them is the ATI Radeon HD 4650. This gpu has a higher power consumption of 48w compared to your HD8490 which consumes 35w. If HP is confident their 320w PSU can handle their system with a 48w GPU, a 35w GPU would be even more so without issue. So no you don't need to upgrade your power supply.

Premade machines from big name brands like that will make it so you cannot easily replace parts in them. It's one of many reason to build your own PC.

Look on ebay/amazon for the specific power supply that tower has and replace it with that.

There used to be conversion cables out there as the 5V standby needs to become 12V standby, but I don't know if there are any for your HP; i.e. there was a small switcher circuit in the cable.

The HP supply has a fan in it controlled by the mother board, you will also lose this control.

In the end I just felt it wasn't worth the trouble and I just recapped the original supply so I knew it would last.
