My card is Gigabyte 980 Ti Xtreme.

In general, it probably won't hurt anything if you are gentle.

However, I highly recommend you always do anything inside the case with power off.

yes you can, but you shouldnt do that when its on
turn off your pc before you touch or move something, its safer than risking when its on

So something happened?

This is my cables:

I have Corsair 750 RM :

you can disconnect something if you dont do that carefully, come on turn off your pc then do something then turn it on again to check
its better wasting 6 more minutes than if something bad happen like you can burn your hardware

shutdown organize cables turn on

I just touch few times pcie cables thats all when pc was on. Nothing big.

if you think its safe enough you can do that
but if you are not sure better turn it off first, better do that than sorry then

You can, Just make sure the PC is off and *unplugged.-(*Just another precaution when doing PC work.)

You'd have to unplug all cables, also LAN and display cable, otherwise it's still grounded and you can technically still make an arc and fry components...

Simple version: What you did most likely won't hurt anything, but it is not recommended to repeat it.

I hate flat cables.

zzz123 if you need to bend one. Disconnect it, then bend it, then put it back on. This way you don't damage the GPU power plug or anything else. If you break the cable you can order more.

So don't bend it when its connected

If it did, it'd be very noticeable (think sparks/fire). So no, you didn't hurt anything. But do not do it again.

bleep!

As I said, unless something obviously bad happened, no. But don't do this in the future.

A whole page in a forum on how to touch a PCI-E cable from the PSU........ smashing! :D Good luck!

And he keeps asking, over and over...we've had a few of these lately, but different subjects. Very strange.

I bumped into my desk when my PC was on. Is it ruined?

Answer ? Tomsretardware members branching out

I'M Seriously :)sorry for the Sarcaspasm

It's sad but (possibly) true. I used to be very active in the Tom's Hardware Forum years back. Then they changed their forums layouts and questions like this keeps popping out over and over and over and they populate the front page discussion every hour. After a certain point, I was done and left the forums for good.

I was expecting this:

if the power cable flexes the card in the slot it could freeze up.
