Recently built a new PC with a fresh install of Windows 11. I remember briefly while installing drivers I could left click on the right side of the task bar over the Wifi and Sound settings to open quick menu functions but now when I do nothing happens. Instead I need to right click and open "Network and Internet Setting" or "Sound Settings" respectively instead of just being able to left click and open the quick menu for faster access. Same goes for the date and time. I can use the rest of the task bar as usual however. Any idea how to fix this? I have tried restarting windows explorer, no avail.

Hover over the system tray clock, then left-click and see what happens.

When I hover over the icons I getfurther info which pops up. For example when hovering over the Wifi icon it will show which wifi network I'm connected to. When I hover over the audio icon it shows what speakers I'm connected to and when I hover over the system tray clock it will show the date but that's about it. Still unable to left click and open unfortunately.

You could try

Run Power shell Command
  1. Open the Task manager. Here’s a tip: Press CTRL+Shift+ESC.
  2. Click File > Run New Task
  3. Make sure you have a check mark beside “Create this task with administrative privileges”
  4. Type Powershell
Type the following in the Powershell prompt:

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

  1. Wait for PowerShell to execute and complete the command. Ignore the few errors (in red color) that may pop up.
  2. When it finishes, try to check the issue and hopefully it’ll start working.

Please not this issue was for a windows 10 and not 11, how ever it did fix the guys issue.

And this didn't work either sadly :(

I'm afraid your install of Windows might be a bit borked. Left-click functionality is built into the UI and if it is nonfunctional a recovery install of Windows will be in order..

I recall an update in the past two months that addressed this. I did have the issue but that update fixed it. Look for KB5016629/update your computer through Windows Update.

And I have that update installed. I am going to manually uninstall and re-install and see how that goes...if it doesn't then I guess re-install time.

Hmmm, something seems definitely wrong. When I hover over the clock on my W10 and W11 systems, and left-click, it brings up this month's calendar. And when I hover and right-click, it brings up the taskbar menu.

Sadly, I don't have a solution for you.

You need to click the volume/network icon, not the clock/calendar
I suggested the clock just to see if the functions worked. And they don't on his, but do on mine. :(

Unless you have some third party start menu replacement active, just do an in-place upgrade of windows over the top of your existing install. Nothing gets erased, but system files are re-written restoring broken things.

It was a known bug in certain insiders half year ago. It should be fixed in Commulatives unless you screwed with regiestries.
