I had never heard of this brand, but my Olevia HDTV that I was using just sold on eBay and I need to order a new monitor tonight. This Chimei monitor has won 2 user choice awards and gets a lot of praise from hundreds of reviews. Its nice and cheap, I'm thinking of going for it. I was just wondering if anyone owns or owned one to give me their first hand experience with this company.

Yeah man go for Chimei for sure, I've got that exact model.

I've had one of these babies a month now and it's really good. Clarity of the picture is superb, colour is spot on. Have been playing heaps of Far Cry on it at 1680x1050 and game looks excellent. And 22" is huge! without being imposing. I love it. I chose this screen because I saw it in a store next to the 22" Samsung (which had great reviews and sold heaps) and this Chimei gave a better picture than the Samsung. I was most impressed.

Not the best is the adjustability of the stand, forward/back tilt and that's it. And contrast leaves a little to be desired but you only notice that when watching a movie on it in a dark room. By the way 22" widescreen kicks butt for movies, how I got by with 17" I don't know!

It looks pretty sleek too without being flashy about it. And a fantastic price really tops it off. Get one.

I actually owned that monitor ktr before selling it and buying the HDTV and while the image itself was fantastic, the stand was god awful. Everytime I would type it wobbled back and forth...and I have a giant very sturdy desk. I was reading that the oval large base in the Chimei helps keep it very sturdy, and in over 500 reviews no one complains about wobbling...I think I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the input guys =)

Chimei? Never heard. From their website they seem like another generic Chinese-made, Taiwanese-owned brand.

I would definitely go for the Acer. Better quality control than no-name brands.

It's cheaper and supports HDCP anyways, better deal.

The Chimei seems to be better in every single way, except being $10 more expensive. I would say go for it. If reviews say it's good, it's good. Don't be put off by the unknown name though, be smart about it. Just because you've never heard of a company before and it has a crap website doesn't mean their product sucks. Where do you think all the big companies get their panels? Do you think Acer would spend tens of thousands of dollars on R&D for a monitor when they have zero previous experience? No, they buy the panels and firmware code from companies like Chimei, then just design a good-looking case and sell it. Same thing goes with power supplies and pretty much everything computer related but the actual required internals (CPU, mobo, video card, RAM, etc) Do your research first before judging a company by it's name and website.

How do you figure the Chimei is better? It has 800:1 contrast ratio vs Acer's 700:1 (probably a more honest rating). Other than that, they are the same except the Acer has HDCP. Not to mention the Acer is cheaper.

Well like I mentioned already I've owned the exact suggested Acer model and the stand was god awful. If I was typing this right now with the Acer my screen would be wobbling back and forth on a very sturdy, large and stable desk. I ordered the Chimei and tracking info says it'll be here friday. So I'll get back on how it is compared to the Acer then.

hmm I thought Acer is one of the few companys that makes their own panel+case+assembly!

I truly doubt that. Samsung sure, but not such a multipurpose company like Acer. Acer would design the case most likely, but internals are all made my an unknown company. The Chimei also has higher brightness. And what makes you think Chimei is dishonest? Just because they're not well-known? The reviews say it's amazing, what else do you need?

I have a no-name monitor, and it's absolute shit. But that's only because it was the cheapest 17" LCD that I could find. Those small companies rely on 2 things to make business, really low prices, or a much better product. If it was worse than the Acer, the price would reflect it, it would be much cheaper because there's no third-party in the manufacturing/marketing chain.

And if you're wondering still, yes the base is very stable. The Chimei doesn't wobble at all.

Also, I read that this Chimei panel is now used by Dell in their 22" screens. And Dell screens are pretty darn good, the ones I've used anyway. Read into that what you will.

But you've already ordered it so it's too late now! Let us know how it works out for you.

It just got here nice and early, 4 hours earlier than usual for UPS. I guess cause of the holiday season. Anywho, this Chimei monitor definitely is far superior to the Acer model that keeps getting mentioned in this thread. The nice wide oval base on this monitor keeps it nice and sturdy, beautiful bright clear picture with no dead or stuck pixels. Time to go gaming!

Good to know, it's always nice when an unknown company beats a well-known monitor.

Sweet as. Enjoy it.
