images of a ground-breaking virtual reality theme park due to complete in south-west China have been revealed.

Curious gamers will be able to travel to the future, battle with dragons, fly to space, or live alongside aliens through virtual experience.

One of the most impressive features is that the attraction will have a gigantic Transformer statue which measures 53 metres (174 feet) in height.

The theme park is called the 'East Valley of Science and Fantasy'. Its first phase, called 'Alien Base', is scheduled to be complete in December.

The theme park attraction is part of a massive 1.3 square kilometres (320 acres), 10 billion yuan (£1 billion) project being developed by the Oriental Times Media Corp's animation unit which is listed on the Shenzhen stock market.

However, the new venture will be devoted to virtual reality movie making, with a cutting-edge media research and development center.

A spokesman for the park reveled that VR helmets and other gadgets will be handed out to visitors to the theme park so they can 'interact with the environment'.

The VR site will give players a more lifelike feeling than playing video games.

Additionally, the park will feature China's first VR roller coaster and 13 pavilions showcasing different UFOs, which can help children explore outer space in a digitally immersive way.

Its a front to build their own mini Jaeger and training facility.

Funny how the Chinese gov not long ago was banning gaming, saying it is frivolous western behavior, and now they're allowing huge VR theme parks based on western culture. You can't get much more Hollywood than Transformers. LOL

It reminds me of my state formerly being against marijuana use, and has now legalized it and are selling it themselves. Wouldn't it be nice if all politicians would just once in a while admit they're the biggest hypocrites on the planet?

Banning outside stuff, not banning local stuff i do believe. I wounder if it's just going be another big splash on money which gets abandoned after a while, like the idea of the bicycles.

There's more to it than the media painted it to be. They emphasized the banning of Xbox, Playstation, etc, sales but the Chinese gov has always done such things to keep their citizens from wanting democracy. Those under communist rule whom get too much taste of the freedoms of western culture often leave the country or rebel. I can't help but look at that huge Transformers VR robot and think of the hypocrisy.

This is not VR. :)

VR park should be a bunch of nerds in an abandoned factory sort of setting while wearing goggles.

There is always more to it, as for consoles PS3 sells very well over there as i believe most just go Hong Kong or some thing to get them if need be and use VPN's. In fact MS are having problems getting the sales over there from what i have heard.

Yeah I would have love to seen translated lan party conversations before the ban was lifted of poor Chinese students wondering if the red gov is going to come knocking on their door one day.

I have to think a LOT of Chinese gamers are going to go out of their way to get an Xbox X and play with VPN, especially now that MS have publicly said they offered W10 free to keep Chinese citizens on Windows.

I would guess Xbox not s

Except those are quickly becoming equivalent to laser tag standards, which lets face it, is so outdated compared to VR. The only real problems with doing it outdoors is noises, winds, smells, and temps can effect the experience, but there are ways around those problems.

We'll have to wait and see how they do with this. Quite frankly I'm still skeptical about VR in general due to lack of supporting content. More so than I am 4k by far. Especially since TVs with 4k don't cost much more than 1080p ones now, but a decent VR setup, is quite an investment.

There are quit a lot of VR applications already. Almost 50-50 in terms of gaming versus productivity. VR is an interface, it was never just meant for gaming.

Also, porn industry is adopting VR FAST. If there is one thing we can count on for advancing new consumer tech it has been porn in a lot of situations. :p

Im not even gonna lie. Porn has never been the same since i bought Vive. Some of the top VR porn productions' quality are already amazing. And this is just film, not to mention the interactive anime type ones.

Yeah im a weird cat.

I was responding to what you said about this VR theme park, which is obviously gaming related, as was your comment about such places that are indoors. You're taking what I said WAY out of context. I was referring to the limited gaming specific VR content, especially full games. A very small percentage of AAA games get decent VR treatment.

Despite their government, good for them. There's nothing more modern middle class than a damn theme park. Soon enough, they'll have their own comedy movie and Chinese version of Chevy Chase.

So long as they make money off of it, the CCP doesn't care what you do to yourself or with yourself. In that sense they or no better or worse than the rest of the world they preach to, though I'd argue they're undoubtedly hypocrites of the highest order!

I meant they're more flexible about it now. I'm guessing the bean counters eventually talked them into taxing such things to profit off it. Nothing says compliance like $$$$!
