okay i started to get problems with my monitor. it wouldnt show any signal or image. so i tried connecting my monitor to my bros laptop same thing. no signal or image. then i connected my pc to my bros monitor and it worked. so i asked my friend and he said the monitor must have burnt out.

so i bought a new monitor.. it worked.. but then shut down after 15 mins.. then restarted it and it would get to loading windows then it wold show no signal on the monitor. tried a couple more times. and it was the same.. so i search on the internet for some solutions and one was just change the outlet port for the monitor power cord. and i did and then it worked and then shut down after 15 mins. and it repeated what happened before.. then.. after a while like an hour i turned it on again.. and it worked then it would shut down after around 10-15 mins again..

my friend said it might be power supply or processor or graphics card?

any advice/ solutions?

rule out the psu unless the monitor is actually getting power from it. It probably either you have very bad luck with those monitors or the graphic card is sending signals that your monitor cant process. processor could be, but i dont know how.

old monitor worked for about 3 months with no upgrades to any part in my comp.. then..it just stopped working the monitor.. and now my new monitor.. asus 23 inch hdmi.. works.. but it shuts down after like 15 mins..

Should check if the new monitor works with the laptop. And when you check with the laptop, do you use a different wall plug. Im wondering the power flow to that outlet/breaker is screwy.

i was using dvi at first.. this is with old monitor.. and then tried vga and i saw the logo at first then it wouldnt work..no signal.. just an add on to my post.

i hooked up my new monitor to the laptop.. its running smooth.

WHen it shutsoff on the desktop. is there no power to it, like no indicator light. or does it go into a power saving mode with an amber light?

yeah it goes to power saving.. amber light.

k so monitor is definately fine. it could actually be a sleep timer. thats not waking up. make sure sleep and hibernate settings are off. otherwise probably video card issues.

do you know where that setting is lol

If vista/7; control panel (classic view)> power options. what ever plan you have selected click change plan settings. Change turn off display to never. Change sleep to never.

it was already set to never. .. it still shuts down after like 10-15 mins

Borrow a video card from a friend if you can to try that.

one of my friends checked out my computer. he said that its my power supply it cant handle my graphics card.. but i dont get it because my graphics card has been running with the power supply for a couple of months now. he said the fan on my graphics card doesnt even turn on so my graphics card over heats and that is whats causing it to shut down.so hopefully he is right

could definately be right. you'll want to look at a good brand. TPU here has an excellent list of power supply brands to get. http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=39758

I have a corsair tx750w, its quite excellent and should support any configuration you would have in the future (except maybe quad sli or quad fire). Its about a $100 price tag i believe.

im planning to get 750 or 1000 w.. and im planning to get a quad core processor probably a new motherboard. im changing my fan that i have at the side of the comp. and thats all for now.. changing the whole thing.

including the case.. basically a whole new comp.

Cool. if you need some assistance, there's a great subforum in here for that. but maybe get a nice cooler for that quad core and overclock it ;)
