Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts issue

I'm having some graphics issues with the game during the Campaign (specifically the Normandy one), some way through (quite random really, from a few minutes to almost towards the end) each mission the scene suddenly goes black, but the mini map is still there and the icons, etc. are still there and the game still continues. But the main part of the screen is black. So I just save, quit, then continue, and it repeats itself.

I'm playing it at 1920x1080, medium texture quality, around 2/3s model quality, low shadow quality, with physics etc. enabled, still happens repeatedly even with either 4x AA or 2x AA or no AA.

Playing skirmish however I had no problems. Played twice with both lasting around 25 mins, which is already longer than the time it takes for the problem to appear during the Campaign.

I'm not playing it with the card (HD 4870) overclocked, I've just put it in stock frequencies, and I'm using the 9.6 Catalyst drivers.

COH:OP has about 2Gigs of updates. I suggest that you uninstall then reinstall the game. But download the updates separately.

Nope, we are at 2.60XX something or another. It forces you to install their add-on maps "tales of valor". But the game still runs correctly.

They've also added some sort downloading program called RelicDownloader. This will download additional patches. But in all honesty it's time for a new game.

Searching around other forums, there have been issues with the 9.6 drivers regardless of whether having 2.502 or not. I've rolled back to 9.5 and have not encountered the same problems...yet.

Searching around other forums, there have been issues with the 9.6 drivers regardless of whether having 2.502 or not. I've rolled back to 9.5 and have not encountered the same problems...yet.
I have this game and 9.6 and don't have any issues at all. Must be something on your end. Heck, I even posted benchmark results a few days ago. And no, the current version is not 2.502 it is 2.600.

I have this game and 9.6 and don't have any issues at all. Must be something on your end. Heck, I even posted benchmark results a few days ago. And no, the current version is not 2.502 it is 2.600.

You had to have a Core i7 and Vista for the problem to appear. Checked the official forum for COH and also in gamereplays.org and that's what's common. And yeah, I might have missed the 2.600 from the list.

I used to have this problem, and i had to alt-tab out to desktop and then return to fix it tempotary.
A clean install of drivers fixed the problem permanently.

No problems for me now, just to confirm. I did say "yet" in my previous post, but I've already "ended" Operation Market Garden and I'm about to liberate Caen, and no more problems have been encountered.

i've got the game, and i can definately tell you 9.6 has issues with it. 9.5 works fine, so go back to those. mine goes batshit crazy if i have dual monitors enabled, or media player classic running on 9.6, but i can have movies playing on the secondary monitor while gaming on 9.5 with no issues.

Current version is 2.600 as has been said, its about a week old i think.

relic downloader is merely a torrent program that torrents the patches. they stay downloaded in your my documents folder, so its 100% the same as downloading them manually.


edit: and while i don't believe its the problem, what model is your PSU? seeing an i7 on a generic? "500W" makes me cringe.
edit 2: oh its a prebuilt? i guess its gotta be stable then.

Hmm, I didn't find anything complaints of this sort over at gamereply.org. Those who are having problems are having them with v2.60. You were using 2.5XX that's why I believe it was something else. Furthermore, the thread over at relic involves v2.60 and a nvidia user :). Yes, some believe it was cat 9.6 but the problem did start at the time of the v2.60 update which was just around the time of the Cat 9.6 release.

In any case, glad things are working out for you.

My suggestion would be to make sure directX is up to date. its possible the latest patch uses a more updated version, and people who are a few months behind are crashing.

Just because you read them saying it doesn't make it so. That update was around the time of the cat release. Besides, you cannot ignore the nvidia user who created the thread stating a problem with v2.60 to begin with. ;) Don't get me wrong there is a problem but I see evidence to the contrary of a cat driver problem when a nvidia user is also having problems.

For all we know, that nividia user has a dead stick of ram, or his PSU is failing.

Mussels, you know that train of thought isn't correct. The OP who uses another video card and driver is also having problems. Therefore, the issue isn't isolated to specific driver. Besides, have you read their tech support, there are plenty of others who are having problems.

trust me, i lurk there a lot. there is ALWAYS people having problems with this game.

If you've ever tried playing it online with randoms, you'd know that at least two people drop out of every game before it finishes.

the tech support over there isnt very great, they only ever look at software problems. they never point out it could be hardware, simply because they dont know how to fix it.

In gamereplay.org there's an Nvidia user with problems too, but not with the latest drivers, and not the latest COH version. Heck the thread was 6 months ago.
