Hi all.

I have run my setup quite happily for a while now, until recently.

This mornign I turned on my compuer only to find it was stuttering to start up, hard to explain, but asically, the fans and lights would flick on for a split second, then turn off, then turn on again, then turn off. This is all done with no routien at all. It's completely random.

Sometimes, it turns on and works fine, but when it is on, I cant play any videogames. I will start them up, play for 15 minutes or so, then the monitors will turn off. Sound contiues, but it gets choppier and slower progressively. It does not respond to anything, and the only way it seems to get it working again is to restart the computer. It doesnt matter what game I play this happens.

I'm pretty sure it isnt over heating. The PC idles at 30-35, and runs at about 45 under load.

I have tried a few things, mainly rebuilding it, incase it was a loose connection, putting in a new power plant, and a reset of the BIOS. For now the coughing starts seem to have stopped, but I still get the screen dying. The thing that made the difference here was me taking the power battery to the BIOS out, then leaving it for 10 mins, and putting it back in.

Any ideas what it could be anyone?

My Setup
C2D E4300 running at 2.5ghz (It was when this stuff started happening, isnt now)
2GB Corsair Dominator DDR2 800MHz RAM
Abit IP35 Pro

My mistake, that has since been uprated to 550W

It could be your psu.. have you tried turning on the system while out of the case? grounding issue?
But I believe it could be not enough volts to the system.. can you check this website out to make sure about having the proper wattage.

Definately need a new PSU. At least 480W.

Known Issues with that motherboard include;

PWM component Heatsink NOT properly making contact. > RMA

MCH heatsink was not completely flat and also NOT properly making contact . > RMA

Many PSU problems in regards to the P35 chipset on this board. > Replace PSU with on that is rated at 600w or better @ 80%+ Efficiency.

Double Boot Issues with the ASUS CPR on this board. > Asus is working on this issue.

Problems with Corsair Ram at 2.1v Vdimm setting. > loosen timmings.

Hmm, seems like I have bought a turkey of a board then :(

I tried that link that Cold Storm sent, I need a 280W Power supply it would seem. It looks like I need another PSU then? I was going to get a hold of a decent modular one sometime soon anyway. 600W seems a bit steep though?

how long have you had it? i've been in the same boat... my system just kept into a loop on turning on and on... test just one of everything.. gpu, ram, and nothing else and see how it posts...

ALso many problems with the corsair HX series PSU, and a few isolated incidents with a few others.

Hmm, the PSu has been in there for a few months, as has the MB/Processor and RAM. GFX card is pretty old tho.

It seems to be calming down though.. I dare not turn it off for fear of it not starting again!

I was thinking a Hiper 580Modular for a PSU, just all about geting the money to get it.. Anyone know of any problems with that?

Right, Nope, problem has got much worse. Now it will not turn on at all. The computer still has the same coughing, pulsing stalling effect, whatever you want to call it.

IF anyone knows the board hex codes, it is 9.9. According to the manual it means that it has performed a complete power off cycle.
There was a phase where it was doing 8.2. which is Enable ATX power supply. But, then that isnt the case now, and as I have said, I have replaced the PSU with another, although I might try another also.

On the sequence it is doing now, (9.9.) it seems to get up to 8.3. which is ATX power ready.

Help somebody!

EDIT:There is a theory that it is the ON/OFF button on the front of the case, is this possible. Under the thought that it might be, I have disconnected it and am using the one on the motherboard itself but I am not quite sure if that powers everything on that needs to be powered on. Either way, the effect is the same. One last important thing to ask ias does anyone know why i cannot turn the PC off from this 'cycle' with any switch. I have to turn it off at the PSU.
