Hi all,

Ive got a big problem with my pc.
I just installed a new pc3200 ram module (512mb), there were already two 512mb modules present but pc4300. Shouldnt be a big problem though..

Well, if i boot the machine, i get a black screen with the following line:

R423 SE P/N 113-A32102-103-8P A12 BR# 7891 Rel.9.3.17

This should be the bios version, isnt it?

And... its a Dell coumputer. Ive got 4 LEDs on the backside that can show system errors. According to them there is something wrong with my video card.

If I return to my last system configuration .. Vista stays loading and remains at the bootscreen and XP passes a bluescreen.
Repairing Vista didnt help.

Can anyone recommend anything?

Have you tried unplugging the new stick of ram and seeing what happens?

Sounds to me like the new ram is being made to run at PC4300 speeds, which would causes errors. I'm not sure if a Dell bios will let you, but if you can you need to lower the ram speed to 400MHz DDR (might be 200MHz on some systems).

Nope, Dell doesnt allow that on my Demension 8400.

I tried unplugging it and ...
Vista stays loading and remains at the bootscreen and XP passes a bluescreen.
Repairing Vista didnt help.

I will try to reinstall it now. Ive had my system and all the important data on two different partitions so i wont loose much.

I hope the hardware is ok
