I've just received a G5 Gaming Mouse from my friend (who tested it right before giving it to me) and it worked fine.

I currently have a Logitech MX1000... but I want to start using the G5. When I plug it in, nothing happens. I do not get any Installing New Drivers popup or Foudn New Hardware or anything like that... but the lights on the bottom of the mouse are lit up, so it obviously has power.

Any suggestions? I've tried google and it sucks... nothing works

I've already tried uninstalling and scanning for new hardware in device manager and it doesn't find it :(

Stupid question. You said you uninstalled the MX-1000 software, but did you reboot afterward?

I didn't say I uninstalled the MX1000 software, I said I uninstalled the mouse itself in DEVICE MANAGER

Yes I've rebooted about a million times. SetPoint is still installed, I've tried reinstalling AND updating that. Neither works, but the Mx1000 still works fine...

Also tried without SetPoint being installed at all, Mx1000 still works but G5 doesn't.

Already tried it, still doesn't work.

The G5 has power cos the lights on the bottom are lit up, but the lights for the sensitivity settings are not on at all... so I dunno what the hell is going on :|

Here u go, I found this on Logitech Site.

Uninstalled SetPoint 5, Opened windows explorer to:
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\wdf01000.sys

Rename the file...

C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\wdf01001.sys

Re-installed SetPoint 5, and the mouse was found, brief USB device icon flashed in System Tray.
Opened SetPoint 5

Did you download and install your chipset drivers from Intel?

Yep, first thing I did when I built the PC

I managed to get a Pop Up ONCE saying "USB Device Detected" and then it proceeded to "The USB Device has malfunctioned. Please reconnect the device, and if the problem persists, replace it"

After reconnecting it, it went back to not detecting it again

So I guess it's really tempremental :|

Well if other USB devices/mice/etc. work fine, I would think the mouse is bad.

Even without logitech drivers Windows should still detect and load generic usb device drivers. I would say a faulty mouse is what you got. Have you tried to load it on another rig?

OK Mike do this- 1)Uninstall the set point software with your mx1000 connected. 2) Del C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\wdf01000.sys instead of renaming it. 2b) Download the oldest version of the setpoint software from logitech.3) Shut Down the PC and disconnect the power from the back for about 20 seconds. 4) Connect G5 mouse and reconnect the power and boot into windows, it should detect a regular mouse. 5) Install older setpoint software.

Good Luck!!

Try it on a different computer / laptop and see if it works. Maybe your "Friend" gave you a dead mouse.

I would have to say that the mouse is bad.

Either that or the Logi Gods hate you.

So logically, the mouse is bad and I would suggest the SideWinder™ X8 Mouse. Very configurable, solid configurable response due to weight adjustments. On the fly DPI settings and a solid macro structure.

Yep, that would be my next suggestion as well.

It is possible that the motherboard can't provide enough power to the USB ports to power up the mouse. The G5 is rather power hungy when it comes to USB devices, and a lot of cheaper motherboards have problems with providing power to the USB ports properly, especially if you have other devices using USB.

Alternately, you can go buy a powered USB hub that plugs into an electrical outlet, and plug the mouse into that. This will make the mouse draw power from the hub through the electrical outlet instead of through the computer.
