Computer wont start

I have just purchased a new case, and went to setup everything today. I purchased the ThermalTake V5000+. Anyways I get everything hooked up and ready to go. I go to turn on my computer, and it sounds like it tried to start up, fans spin, then it just shuts down.

I am tried unplugging everything, and just plugging in the bare essential to get the computer atleast started and it still does the same thing. I am hoping I did not screw up anything.

Also I have a 550 Watt power supply, which I think should be enough for everything as well. If there is anything else that I have not mentioned that I should answer for you guys let me know, I am really wanting to fix this problem, and get my stuff up and running. Hopefully it doesn't involve buying another mother board =x.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

First of all recheck all your connections, make sure everything is seated right. Go over the ram and cpu again and make sure the heatsink for the fan is on properly and the fan is spinning.

Gerry.

Ok just checked the ram another time just to make sure, cpu and everything is properly seated, never took it out, but checked anyways, fan spins properly if i spin it. Liked I said though it tries to boot up, makes a little fan spin noise, and then nothing happens.

Is it possible for a PSU to just go bad? I am thinking about going out tonight, and just buing a decent PSU to see if that is the problem.

Remove all periphs (hdd, floppy and so on) so you just have the motherboard power connector, try powering on this. If this powers on ok then add a periph(one at a time) and repeat. Hopefully there is a simple solution.

What motherboard/ CPU do you have?

I am going to bed now (2 in the morning here) will check in the morning, hopefully be able to help better with a fresh head :)

Cheers,

Gerry.

Well I know it sounds simple but is the switch behin your PSU turned off...

Anyways I``m not sure about your hard ware maybe you have a AMD Athlon 64 939 wich requires the original ATX connector and the other (4pin wire) 12volts
Let me know what your hardware is.

Well, figured out I zapped my MB, and SOMEHOW my vid card...wow...done this many times, and only had the MB thing happen once, but never the vid card...don't know how the heck that happened...Anyways I haven't on the equipment that long, think it is possible to get an RMA on the vid card and MB?

Its possible that you static shocked it...
But then again like I said let me know what your hardware is..

Alright guys I figured out the prob... It's weird and I myself have never heard of it, but maybe you have.

Last night I got off work, and had my other MB in there from testing it out and stuff, it booted fine. Well I kinda ghetto rigged my MB to my PSU, not putting it in the case. Well the MB turned on perfect, so I was like hell yeah, and decided to hook everything the way its suppose to be...nothing, very mad.

Anyways today I come home to attempt it again, it was in the case at this time, and of course..didn't work, so I decided to try the ghetto rig again, outta the case, booted perfectly. screwed it back in the case, didn't work. So I narrowed it down to the case causing the problem. So the little things that usually can snap into some of the holes in your MB for securing purposed, I pulled out with a wrench, and just put screws in them. It didn't work at first, but then I loosened up the top right screw of the MB, and it booted prefectly, and also hooked up the case with my 5 fans prefectly as well.

Well, hopefully this can help someone in some way if they have had this weird problem.

Thanks for everyone that helped,
Brian Moore

PS...Comp Specs
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
MSI K8N Neo2
ATI Radeon x850xt PE
1 gig of ram
550 watt PSU

do u have risers between ur mobo and case?....i didnt and this mobo im on right now survived thank GOD!1 but it did make a noise simillar to that.

Thats probably why they say to never tighten your MB to much.
I `ve seen this problem before.

I wasnt aware of that =( Oh well atleast I figured it out, instead of buying a new MB and vid card =x

Yah it always sucks when you have to buy new hardware not because you want an upgrade but because something is messed up.
Its always frustrating when you are all happy got something new for your PC and for NO reason something doesn`t work. (Well there `s a reason but you cant fint it :p)

Now another thing sucky happened...freaking playing Counter strike all of a sudden, my headphones cut off, and make this occasional buzzing noise...life hates me this week i think...troubleshooting to see if it is onboard sound or headphones, of course no other headphones to try =x

Unlucky dude...

Installed another sound card I had. Never realized this one was much better too, everything fixed as well =p

Seams like you dont need to post your problems here :P
Im glad it works out for you man.
