im thinking of doing a hardcore mod on my x850xt as the pencil mod wont work, i dont like using a soldering iron so im thinking of getting a conductive pen, however im not sure can u use them to say solder a resisitor to the card?

I recently bought some conductive ink, its pretty good stuff, its laquer mixed with the silver etc. It sets pretty hard and gives fairly good conductivity!

It is better than the pen's as it doesn't clog the nib and you get a little applicator with it that you can use or use cocktail sticks!

I paid £6.85 off ebay all in, the pen's cost like 3 times as much!

Next best thing other than soldering, also comes off easily with nail varnish remover, I personally use the cotton wool type pads that come soaked in nail varnish remover, had to tell the sales assistant they weren't for me lol

;)

can it be used to fix resistors on a board?

can it be used to fix resistors on a board?

I dont see why not, it conducts electrickery with little ohms resistance!

People more in the know will beable to give you a better answer though!

;)

you can use the conductive pen to change the VID settings on your card if the PCB looks like the one in the article here

Nope Is Doesnt Its A Newer Style So I Have To Solder Or Use A Conductive Pen On All The Mods, Thats Why Im Wondering Will A Conductive Pen Hold A Resistor In Place?!

What do you think they put in conductive pens??? Conductive ink! lol

The stuff I use sets rock hard and it conducts for me!

so in thoery if its sticks solid then it should be able to hold a resistor in place?

I'm fully aware of what a conductive pens is ... however to think you can use it to soldier on a resistor is not the best way... the soldier pad needed to place the resistor on is very small and would be very hard to keep the pen from creating a contact between them .. thus creating a paper weight... like to see some pics of the ink job you did ..

maybe i should have a go on a old sound card 1st see if its stick and doesnt go everywhere?!

could do with more views tho:nutkick:

looking where you have to place the resistor for the mod, kind of tight to do, I'm not saying Alcpone isn't right that'll stick but that would be tuff to do .... looking here

yeh no dout its just im no gd with a iron just seems to spread the solder everywhere where i dont need it and make a mess lol
