check and see if your connection (if it is DSL or even Cable) is set to ALWAYS ON. I had that problem with resets of my modem from AT&T. If its not, after so long, it will disconnect you. Thats why restarting the PC makes it active again (modem is sent a signal to reactivate). Way to check it is to log onto your router/modem homepage and make sure its set to always on. If you use a wireless router inbetween your gateway (dsl.cable modem) and your computer, check to make sure its not Firewalled and ports are open.

modem/router homepage?

how do i get there?

(sorry total newb)
you->:slap:<-me

maybe try takeing the router out of the equasion and see if its crashing.

im not useing a router only the modem that the cable company gave me

is your modem a pure modem, or does it have router functions, if it has router functions it could be the router inside it screwing up, when you reboot it does it work for a while, does it have an ip adress, does it give your computer an internal network looking ip adress, does it crap out when you have a torrent with alot of ppl on it and alot of connections?

what is the model and i can prolly look it up for you easy enough

6 Motorola SB4200 SURFboard Cable Modem

dont worry this is a real modem

its probably ok, you have cable so, you might wanna check to make sure you are getting as good a signal as you can, as few splitters as possible, check to make sure your tvs are not breaking it, make sure you dont have too much line, like my mom ran alot of extra tv cables everywhere [hundreds of feet] and that made it suck for me

this is a good time to use tracert to see where your network is breaking, and how its performing and where its performing good and bad.

open up a dos box [run cmd] and do tracert google.com

do it a couple times and see how the network performs at different points, and then when it dies try it again

also note down the ip adress that google.com resolves to and if it says cannot find host or whatever just do tracert and then paste the ip and see if its just your nameserver going down

goog luck man if you have any questions lemme know :)
