Power Supply 500W CoolerMaster X-Connect
I've had this for quite awhile now. Basically, i went from a 6600GT to a x1600 PRO. With the 6600GT I never had this happen, but with the 1600 every now and then my controls will freeze up and i cant do anything for about 5 seconds. It doesnt matter what game i play. I've been playing guildwars a lot though and for instance, if i'm moving forward and it happens, i cant change direction until its over. Whats odd, is ONLY my controls freeze, my cursor disapears, my keyboard stops working, etc, but the game video doesnt slow down the slightest bit. I'm pretty sure it has to do with my graphics card cause it didnt happen before. I have also contacted both the manufacturers of guildwars and ATI and i've tried all their sugguestions with no luck. If there is something else other then my graphics card that could cause this, please let me know, its getting very annoying because it often gets me killed.

More extensive look at my setup:

Windows XP Pro SP2
1 GB DDR400 Ram
300GB Maxtor Hard drive
X1600 PRO 256MB - AGP
AMD 64 3000+ @ 2 Ghz
Most updated graphics, sound, chipset, etc drivers. (including Direct x9)

If any more info is needed, let me know, and as i said, it all worked fine when i had a 6600GT(Fried it otherwise i would go back to using it)

Power Supply?

500W Cant remember the company, but its X-Connect. Pretty sure its either thermaltake or CoolerMaster

Anyone have any idea's? I was thinking of reinstalling it using my standard XP disk, cause after i got this card i reinstalled with a CD with streamlined SP2. Other then that, its the exact same setup as before i got this card.

The X-Connect is from Ultra...

Before you do format, try to run some spyware/virus scanners. I reccomend Ad-Aware SE, Avast!, and Spybot Search and Destroy. If you find anything, delete it, if problems persist, find any suspicious processes (like ISSEARCH.exe), google them, and see if you can find a fix to the individual problem. If you have a clean system, I'm betting you have something that takes up CPU time (run msconfig, go to the startup tab, and disable anything you don't want to start with windows), or you have laggy internet. Try running some games that do not require an internet connection to run, such as Halo, Unreal Tournament, or Republic Commando. If you get lag in those, then you should consider a clean install of windows, or a different Catalyst version.

i noticed that in some of my games too. mostly, its because the games retarded-like and doesn't preload fast enough off the hdd.

check to see if you're hdd's thrashing when it freezes.

It does it pretty much right after a fresh install of windows, again though this is using a CD with SlipStreamed SP2. And it does it in games without internet, like Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory......which really sucks cause i'll be sneaking up on someone and all of a sudden i cant stop and i'll run into him.

This also could be a possiblity, Because i also recently switch from my 80 GB being my main HD to the 300GB SATA. I'll check this out when i get a chance.

EDIT: Ok, reinstalled and it seems to still do it every now and then but not as often as it was. Any other idea's?
