I've heard of people converting IDE hard drives to SATA. How is this done? I don't know because I never even knew it could be done before. It'd be very useful to get rid of that stupid IDE cable and go for a nice small SATA connection.

You can get a small coverter board that plugs into the HDD and gives you a SATA connector.

WARNING. I've got one and never managed to get it to work stable on a HDD or CDROM. The HDD would work for a while then freeze. The CDROM would spin and freeze. While I loved the idea, in practice I have had no luck. AVOID

It might be that I was just unlucky. There are different brands out there. Has ANYONE been successful? Please post experience and model number and link. Thanks!

i got one for my hard drive and cd/dvd drive too. they convert ide into pata not sata and you get pata feeding the sata line for faster than ide speed from that point into your board but the lag time in the conversion time basically makes it a wash. it did neaten things up and they cost $10 so no breaking the bank but round ide cables are cheaper and just as fast since i never really got better transfer speeds. i just threw those two converters in the trash or i could send em to you free but too late for that. if you try it get 90degree connectors for the drives, the card sticks out about 1 1/2 inches then the sata wire plugging in straight was within a hair of touching my ram.
