hi im having some big ATI card problems.first here's my specs

Diamond S120 256mb radeon 9550 card
500watt ps
gigabyte GA-K8VM800M mobo
sound blaster live 16bit digital card
200GB H.D
40 GB H.D
768 MB ram
AMD XP 64 2800+ processor

i hope to upgrade this whole system soon, espically ram and mobo/cpu

okay..so whenever i go into FPS game, like COD or hl2 my game freezes up and i get a VPU error on my ati catalyst

now i have made a temp fix,i turned off fast write AGP write and AGP read in smartgart..but it really limits my ability on my video card when i go to directx theres no option to AGP accelleration because i turned off all that stuff in smartgart..

so would flashing my bios help at all? with ATItool these are the normal rates
249.75core
195.75 memory

here's my bios also for my vid card
BK-ATI VER008.017D.033.000

i looked on the bios listings and no diamond. what do i do from here?

First off are u sure its the gfx card could be the motherboard doing that since turning off agp writes fixed it somewhat also try useing driver cleaner and then installing new drivers but honestly i dont think flashing bios will help sounds like somethings seriously wrong with the card

edit: after some searching i found this http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.aspx?catid=23&threadid=67494&enterthread=y
hope that fixes it like i suspected its the mobo and not the card

if you dont feel like reading all that basicly just download and update your mobo bios form here depending on which reversion u have http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/BIOS_List.aspx?Keyword=GA-K8VM800M

...how old is your card? And I think that replacing the cooler would do a better job then flashing the bios lol. Either that or clock it down...

thanks alot guys,helped me out!

i've searched along time, and now it's fixed..i changed some stuff in my bios that was causing it to crash

u do realize that if you update your bios u can revert all that stuff back to defualt and it will work with no problems
