CPU Fan/Burning Smell/Weird Noises

Hi, I have recently been having problems with my computer. I have been
getting weird noises when I start up the computer, after I hear this I
immediately turn off my computer and wait a while and turn it back on,
then there are no more noises. This happens every once in a while.
Another problem that happens once in a while is the burning smell that
I can smell in my whole room. I have the side cover off of my computer
and can smell it in there very strong. And another problem is I can
hear my CPU Fan turning on/off and then going from very fast to very
slow.. I really need some help so can anyone please help me?

p.s. i have recently formatted my computer

Almost certainly just a fan that's dying. Open the computer up and
figure out which fan is making the noise, or simply not moving at all,
and replace it! Fans are cheap, the parts that fans are keeping cool
are expensive.

both of you could help others out by filling in your system specs on the usercp.

Could be insane amounts of dust inside your PSU?!

Agreed Tigger. It helps us know what you have and if anyone else with systems similar to yours have had the same problems

1./ Replace CPU cooler and fan combo with a nice decent aftermarket. Clean the CPU and apply the supplied thermal grease. This will ensure that you have better CPU cooler than a stock PC...and save your CPU from possible fry

2./ Look carefully to see if the PSU has a fan and the fan is spinning when the PC is on. If not... no fan, or fan not spinning, remove the PSU immediately and replace with a decent "silent" PSU. Find out what WATTs PSU you need... from elsewhere in this forum. DO NOT REPLACE the PSU with the same Watt rated PSU. It could be underpowered

3./ If the PSU is working... could the smell be coming from the PSU? If so, throw it away immediately. Replace. See 2.

4./ Check case for fans and dust. Are there fans in the case? Are they spinning? If NO case fans... put one in. Every case has a location for a case fan... but not all have one connected.

5./ Check video card fan. Is it clean or dusty. If dusty, remove card from PC, remove fan from GPU card. Clean. Apply new thermal grease. Replace.

6./ Noise when starting the computer? Don't forget to remove CD's in the CD player. If not that... probably the GPU fan. Think about getting a replacement GPU cooler
