CPU not reaching 100% usage whilst playing Valorant

I've been trying to reach constant 144fps whilst playing Valorant or LoL but somehow I can't. I hover at around 120-130fps with constant frame drops. My GPU and CPU usage doesnt go over 50% whilst playing, so it cant be possibly bottlnecked by my CPU right? When playing other games like Tekken 7 and Naruto NInja Storm 4 I can push my GPU usage to 100%. Here are my PC specs, any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

CPU: i7 4790
GPU: AMD HD7870 2GB
RAM: 2x 4GB 1600mhz DDR3 Hyper X Fury Dual Channel
PSU: 600W

You are using a card that was a previous Gen before the Game released. Your 2 GB Frame buffer is probably the culprit.

A quick google shows that the game is CPU bound.

A guy on reddit went from a Quad Core Intel to a AMD 3600X and the problem went away - He also had a GTX1660 so it shouldnt be a frame buffer issue.

Try tabbing in and out of the game a few times or switch from borderless to full screen mode in the game settings and see if that helps.

Either way. If a game engine likes more cores - Either play at a lower res/video quality or get a new CPU with more cores or a new setup. Some engines do like more threads, thats just how the cookie crumbles.

I don't know of any Ganes that pushes 100% of CPU usage.

100% CPU utilisation will result in micro-stutter - it is bad not good thing to want...

To OP - can't you simply lower a setting or two?

because your CPU does not reach 144 FPS?

I know this game can run on a potato. The screenshot makes it look like you are v-synced at 144Hz. Which is why you GPU is sitting at 40% usage in Valorant at least.

i had uncapped framerate and max settings ,but my gpu usage never exceeded 50-60%

Not all games can use all cpu cores, which they need to do so to fully utilise a chip, in fact most games I play are 1-4 threaded.

Also its generally not a good idea to max out cpu's in games.

If you cannot get constant frame target and assuming you dont have VRR to prevent stutters/tear, then better to lower the refresh rate to a target you can hit such as 120hz or 60hz. I doubt 144 is noticable over 120, so I would just drop refresh rate to 120 for this game.

so my old Gpu (GTX 750) was good enough with the setup? i could play 100-120 fps somehow.I upgraded it from a GTX 750 to amd hd7870 to play more than 120fps

You need to analyse the cpu utilisation on each core to get an idea of the number of threads in the game. Also ask yourself can you honestly tell the difference on 144 vs 120? The higher refresh rate goes the less noticeable it will get. But if you really really want that 144, then analyse whats going on with the load of the game. I have more games that are cpu bound than gpu bound, and usually its not the entire cpu but rather a per core limitation which typically increasing IPC or performance per core will improve.

so i need to check number of threads in valorant okey
