Cpu temperature higher after changing thermal paste

Hey, I'm very new to computers, but very interested. Today I replaced my CPU with new thermal paste (the first time since I bought this pc three years ago).

But I noticed that after replacing the new thermal paste, the cpu temperature became even higher, reaching 80-90 degrees when I run any game (previously 60-70), and in idle state it was a normal 40- 50 degrees (very strange??)

I searched, I used the"Aretic silver 5 thermal paste" made sure I was using the proper amount, tightened my water cooling fan (fan working fine), and even reapplied thermal paste twice, and the problem still persists. I can't think of any solution, I rellay don't want to purchase a new pc until next year. (still 15 :) ) I have attched a few images showing the temerature and the thermal past I applied. I hope someone can help me. This is really important for me, thank you so much.

Arctic Silver 5 is a thermal paste that has a curing time. Until it is fully cured you could see higher temperatures. Curing time can be up to 200 hours. Apparently turning the PC off, letting it cool down and then restarting may help speed up the curing.

It doesnt.. I have played that game too many times :D

I would use a little less next time. Literally just enough to cover the IHS without being translucent.

Those temps are way off. So any explanation citing curing time feels bonkers very far fetched!

I think you literally screwed it up mate.

Take your time fastening the screws more evenly (switch around more with less screwing-in before moving on) in an x pattern.

And there are no bonus points for trying the thinnest covering possible. That´s not it at all!

If you want some neat trick simpy carry the tube of paste in your trousers until the paste warms up.
Even if you put 4 times too much on it: It makes for a far smoother and thinner plane of paste after getting pressed on than your manual attempts beforehand with cold paste will ever manage.

Good luck!

ps who didn´t try their fine motor skills out by trying to apply the thinnest layer of paste possible? We all did ;)
For the self-tap on the back, which is totally ok.

Simply don´t praise it as gospel to others afterwards :D

Maybe use something a bit more stable to watch temps, like HWinfo..

AS5 was great 20 years ago, nowadays there are hella better selection of TIMs. Get a tube of MX-4 for example.

LOL I was doing some toybox cleaning yesterday and found 2 tubes of Arctic Silver 5 to go along with 2 ID Cooling and an Arctic MX5 (yep, the big bad blue one). I should try the old Silver on the next pastejob just for fun.

I mean there are hella lot better TIMs than AS5. But it shouldn't still perform as shitty as it does for you :S

This sort of temperature difference is almost certainly to do with mounting, not some paste issue.

Re-mount and check again. Make sure your cooler's pump is running properly as well. Use something like HWInfo to monitor, not HWMonitor. HWMonitor is unreliable.
