Hi,
I recently built my own system. Its really good and im really pleased with it, but im a bit worried about the temperatures.
During boot up i get to about 65oC, idle between 48oC and 55oC depending on what i have just been doing and 76oC under load.
I know that my case is NOT thermally advantaged however i watched a video from intel site that showed a p4 (clock speed not showed) only getting up to 35oC during boot up even without an air duct. Im not sure weather this is just wrong or if its only the first part of boot up (so it gets much hotter). 35oC seems a bit cold for a p4 with a prescott core!
I also emailed intel about my temps and they stated :-
"The maximum operating temperature for your Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 550 at
3.40 GHz is 67.7 to 72.8 degrees Celsius."
Which is 3oC (roughly) UNDER my temp...
Another thing that i am worried about is the cooler. When i put the cooler ON im not sure if i put it on correctly. It doesnt wobble around but it seems to be not level. From what i can see 2 of the pin things are put in completly but the other 2 are half in. The pin consists of 2 parts. One which is white and goes through the board and clicks in, the other, which is black, goes down a hole that goes straight through the white pin with a little bobble at the end that presses the white on open and therefore holds it in. The black pin has NOT gone through on 2 of them but HAS on one.
My dad said (im only 14) that it should be ok because the compound is kind of like a tomato ketchup in 2 slices of bread. One slice the cooler, on the CPU. If you press on one corner then the kethcup gets squashed and fills the bit on the other side.
Im considering take the PC apart again, and putting the cooler on again to see if it makes a difference.
From what i have said above do you think the cooler is on propery? Is the CPU getting to hot?
If its of any help my spec is as shown :-
Intel p4 550 3.4ghz (not overclocked)
1gb DDR2 RAM
PCI-E Geforce 6600GT 128mb
Abit aa8 3rd eye
160gb SATA hdd
450watt levicom psu
Thanks,
