Hey guys
So I bought an oculus rift 3 days ago. I also bought the touch controllers and a 2nd sensor which came with them. I watched a YouTube video and rift guide how to get it going. They said to connect rift via usb3.0 the original tracker via same. Now for a 2nd or 3rd sensor to use a 2.0 usb . They say a cpu cannot handle to many devices running on 3.0 or tracking devices to be exact. It even says on the 2nd sensor on box to run via usb2.0 and come with 2.0 usb cable extended 20foot.
My board Asus z97 pro gamer has 4 3.0 2 2.0 in back and front I have 2 2.0 usb.
Is it true cpu cannot handle to many tracking devices on 3.0?
Thank you

im sure it requires a bit of processing HP, but id simply try it out, and see how it works. But im sure they suggest the USB requirements for a reason (which they likely discovered during R&D).

I'm running both sensors via 2.0 and no different from 3.0

They are 17ft cable. And Linus did video on that . Actually you can have cable as long as you want

FROM WILKI
The USB 1.1 standard specifies that a standard cable can have a maximum length of 3 meters with devices operating at full speed (12 Mbit/s), and a maximum length of 5 meters with devices operating at low speed (1.5 Mbit/s).[82][83]

USB 2.0 provides for a maximum cable length of 5 meters for devices running at high speed (480 Mbit/s). The primary reason for this limit is the maximum allowed round-trip delay of about 1.5 μs. If USB host commands are unanswered by the USB device within the allowed time, the host considers the command lost. When adding USB device response time, delays from the maximum number of hubs added to the delays from connecting cables, the maximum acceptable delay per cable amounts to 26 ns.[84] The USB 2.0 specification requires that cable delay be less than 5.2 ns per meter (192000 km/s, which is close to the maximum achievable transmission speed for standard copper wire).

The USB 3.0 standard does not directly specify a maximum cable length, requiring only that all cables meet an electrical specification: for copper cabling with AWG 26 wires the maximum practical length is 3 meters (9.8 ft).

I Said
USB 2 fails or has Erratic performance over 5 metres(16ft) unless it has built in signal booster

Great thank you.
Can a cpu have to many usb ports be issue? How will the cpu be affected? I also ordered a pci slot usb card . The one oculus recommended.

Each device connected to a pc that has software Running will consume CPU cycles
How much it affects the Cpu depends on the running software ( even with no software running the O/S will consume CPU cycles polling for Hardware change/activity)

Great thank you.

Yes, a pci or pcie slot USB card allows you to exceed the native USB limitations. The good cards handle that processing load on card.
