I just completed my new build. I have an h100i v2 cooling a stock 6700k. The CPU temp climbed from 50C to 80C in about 3 minutes. The pump is connected to the CPU header and I have 2x sp120 fans pulling from the radiator and they were at ~2k rpm when temps were read. The pump is connected to a USB header too. I have 2 more fans for push/pull but I'm missing the 8 screws. I know it's not ideal but I don't think I should be anywhere close to the temps I'm at.

I'm using the R5 case with a 140mm front intake and a 120mm rear exhaust as well. The temps taken are from the bios screen before installing Windows and with the case open on both sides.

I tried reseating the cooler as well. It's only finger right right now. Please help as I'm going apeshit trying to figure this out.

What mysterious temperature did it reach in the bios?

Oh crap. I left that out. It climbed to 80C and then I just shut it down.

Sounds like a malfunctioning pump , unless you have one of the unkinkable lines kinked.....Can you feel the pump working with-out its fans running and trying to fool you?

I've been out of the game since Sandy Bridge, so I very well could've screwed something up. This was happening earlier this afternoon and I realized I didn't have the pump connected via USB. Connected it and nothing changed. The pump is not loud (not sure if it should be) and I can feel liquid flowing through the lines.

Make sure you have the pumps water block seated properly then reapply tim paste Reboot, is almost always a case of user error. Also just to be sure throw a stock hs on it

I reseated it already. Didn't look or feel like it was wrong. It's only finger tight. I have no other CPU cooler around. I went from a laptop to this new build.

finger tight right now

You should screw the nuts down till they stop spinning (run out of threads), could easily be that there is not enough pressure on the CPU IHS for good thermal transfer! You could also try tilting the case (front to back, side to side, be gentle) while the pump is running, listen for air to move out of the head unit.

Yes I did other than connecting the fans to the rad then the rad to the case. I connected the fans and rad at the same time and planned to install my other 2 fans as push when I got more screws. I assumed the h100 would come with enough for P/P.

I can't spin them with my hands anymore. Want me to screw them down with a screwdriver? I'll try anything.

Yes just like in the video in the link I posted.

EDIT BUT IT DOES SAY THIS

"se the included thumbscrews to secure the block, alternating corners in the same fashion you would remove or replace lugnuts on a tire. Be careful not to over-torque the screws; you can use a screwdriver, but “finger-tight” is typically enough."

So yeah I dont know if thats the issue. But a little tighter should be okay.

Got them a hair tighter with the screwdriver before they stopped and I didn't hear anything when slowly tilting the computer. I'm not sure what i should be listening for though.

I always use a screwdriver when I install pretty much anything the way I do it safely as I hold the screwdriver in my fingertips or loosely their threaded very precisely as to not allow you to over tighten in most cases just use your better judgment and common sense, but I stand by my original comment that 99.99% of the time situations like this are user error. My guess would be screw them down tightly until they stop turning corsair makes their coolers very well within micro inch tolerances you'll be fine , as long as you've installed properly

The air exhausting from my rad does not feel like 80C or anywhere remotely close to this reading I'm seeing. Could my reading just be wrong? My motherboard temp is staying at a constant 27C. I also am not sure how to tell 100% that my pump is on. It has no LEDs or anything.

Did you remove power to the fans on the Res when you felt and listen to see feel if the pump was working? With the fans attached they might be tricking you into thinking you heard or felt the pump?

Old mechanic trick...Put the screwdriver on the top of the Sync head and the screwdriver to your temple or any bones near the ear and listen feel for a pump.

So after disconnecting all the fans, the pump felt the same. Then I realized a fan was still on. So in my maze of cables, I somehow had a rad fan plugged into the CPU header and the pump plugged in to a 2 or 3 pin connector coming out of the pump instead of the mobo. After fixing that, I turn on the computer and hear a nice flow of liquid in the cooler. So this whole time, the pump was off. It's been 5 minutes now and temps haven't gone passed 31C. Such a rookie mistake. Thanks for all the help guys.

Pereffingperfect! Glad it is sorted! Yeeha get to playing with your new build, which by the way looks nice!

Post a Prime95 screen shot with temperatures :toast::D:D:D:D And welcome to TPU:lovetpu:

Thanks again for all the help. Windows is installing now then it's time for drivers and setting some stuff up. I've never used Prime95 but I'll do that tomorrow after work.

DOnt forget the chipset driver once windows is installed, I can already tell your going to be having some fun!

According to the Intel Driver Update Utility, there are no drivers to install. Is there another way to download chipset drivers?

EDIT: Nevermind. I went to MSI's website and figured it out.
