hey i just installed CSS on one of my laptops and i have the settings for everything set onto low. With EVERYTHING on the lowest settings i still get 5-10 fps and makes it completely unplayable. i believe that i have better than the minimum requirements to play the game Ive defragmented my HDD and i have gotten the latest directx 9:c installation. I have playn Gran Theft Auto: San Andreas no problem on this laptop.

CSS MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
1.2 GHz Processor
256MB RAM
DirectX 7 level graphics card

My lappy-HP DV4000 Hardware:
1.6 Ghz Intel Pentium M
1024mb DDR333
Mobile Intel 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express
And Advice is appreciated!THX

What DirectX level are you running? It will tell you in the advance video options screen. Also, that Intel graphics probably isn't that great.

the hardware dx level is : v8.1
and my software dx level is :v9
i thought it was a dx9 capable gpu\but it still is over the minimum requirements

915 doesn't support dx9.0 i dont think, recommended specs are:
Recommended:
2.4 GHz Processor
512MB RAM
DirectX 9 level graphics card

Onboard video is stealing RAM (so you probably only show like 768 or somthing)...

I would guess all video settings are on low...
make sure your plugged in (powersaving)....

Had a similar problem with a friends laptop (and my old one), both had very similar specs. But I thought we were getting a DX9 error when we loaded. Never could get it to run right. It wasn't like a variable FPS, it was a consistent 'stutter' so I always thought it was because cs:s and the source engine were dx9, but even valve has min requirement as dx7. Regular CS ran great ....

oh and try singleplayer. Just read multiplayer doesn;t run, but single player does

This is definatly the onboard graphics, I haven't used an intel onboard GPU that could play CS:S yet. Maybe some of the newest ones could but it wouldn't be to good still I would think.

Try setting the DX level to the hardware supported level...you said 8.1 right? Oh and maybe I should go try with the intel integrated i have...let me go try. Just forced dx10 at the lowest settings, got 35 fps in the video stress test. This was on a p4 3ghz, 1gb of ddr2, intel integrated (i think 845...i know it was 8xx anyways)
