Cyberpunk 2077 will seemingly not be entirely free from microtransactions after all. According to the financial teleconference recently held by Piotr Nielubowitz, CDPR's Vice President of finances, and Adam Kicinski, CDPR CEO, Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer is in early stages of development.

The confirmation of the multiplayer development is a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. CDPR are apparently not getting ahead of themselves here though, as they are well aware of this being their first multiplayer project. The developers are, therefore, experimenting with many things, including the potential monetisation options.

Don't mess this up, CDPR. I have very strong feelings about microtransactions in full-priced games; even if they're relegated to a separate game mode.

Hysteria much? I listened. I wouldn’t even say it’s “possibly” like your title says. He said specifically it’s too early to point in any direction at this point. No one should be concerned at this point yet since it is still “early in development”. Title really os FUD.

I’m not concerned since I only play single-player and am looking forward to a hundred hours of storyline.

100 to 200 hours of single player gameplay at AAA quality... sounds like a good deal to me for $60. movie ticket for 2 hours of entertainment costs near $20. $50 if you got a girl and she wants popcorn and a pepsi. lol

What would you suggest I change the title to?

IDK, lol, since it’s not my thread. I know you’re well intentioned, so maybe just that MP is progressing, all options on the table still.

I will step out now, I just don’t want to see the game or studio prematurely maligned without any proof. Of course if it ends up being true, all bets are off!

Updated post to *hopefully* better express my concern and provide a less sensationalist title.

I have a very strong feelings about them as well. As long as they are not required to actually win/succeed and they're not loot-boxes then whatever.

Pretty much, my take one it. They are already committed to a strong SP experience.

Even if this is true, and i'm not saying it is. If they decided to include microtransactions into MP I don't really care.

For all we know even if there is a MP it could be a total circus and just straight MP. It could be Co-Op. It could be MP with an actual story.

All I know is it will be diff than SP which is all I care about. As long as its not pay to win if the MP has a "win" component to it, I don't really care if they make money off of cosmetics or w/e.

More power to em.

A multiplayer mode with mtx, who'dve thunk it! ;)
Doesn't their Gwent game already have those? Why would anyone think otherwise about MP.. anything having mtx.

I've realized that GOG Galaxy is probably required to access any multiplayer features.

Since I don't use it (DRM free FTW), I'll probably be locked out of multiplayer altogether.

That solves the problem.

Here is more information on the subject which helps clear some things up

1- the single player game has no micro transactions
2 - Multi-player is in the early stages and they need a business model for it so micro transactions are not out of the picture for a potential revenue source.

CD Projekt Red’s upcoming game Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most anticipated games of 2020, and it is launching free of microtransactions so that players can have the full experience for its retail price. However, microtransactions could potentially come to the game’s multiplayer spinoff, which won’t be part of the main game.

Speaking during a financial meeting, CD Projekt Red Adam Kiciński stressed that the multiplayer component for Cyberpunk 2077 was still in the very early stages of development, but the studio would be “experimenting” with how to monetize it.

“We keep experimenting — that’s our first multiplayer game,” he added. “We check various options and possibilities, and it’s definitely not the time to point you to a specific direction on that. Of course, you can expect that we won’t change our general policy toward ‘deals with gamers’ so I expect wise monetization and — always — value for money.”

I'm not concerned with it as I generally only play single player but even for people who like multi-player I still don't think there's much cause for alarm CDPR isn't like EA by a long shot.

Context is important, well said

Was not aware that the multiplayer element was an entirely separate game. Makes me feel a bit better about this.

I'm glad I didn't preorder this thing.
What will it be next ? A season pass and a 1-year Epic Store exclusive ?
I was sure to buy this game at launch but I'm not sure anymore.

I did buy Red Dead Redemption 2 for the single player and I still didn't finish the chapter 2 because I play mostly in the online mode (160h+). I couldn't think I would have so much fun in this online compared to GTA Online. The idea of exclusive cash shop items in a multiplayer mode is a no go for me. What if I like more the multiplayer than the singleplayer in Cyberpunk ? I would have to pay more than what I paid already to get the best experience I can ? Heck it CDR.

I hope for them they polished (sorry) the single player like they never did in a project before, because if they put effort in a multiplayer 1% of the hype train care about and think about getting more milk from the product...
