Hi!
I have problem with my motherboard, user guide says I can install processors up to 2.4GHz to this motherboard processor support from intel website up to 2.8Ghz 533MHz. Second problem is I tried to upgrade Bios but Bios express (aplication for windows environment) always shows me "unsuccesful" and I have no idea why:confused: Thank You for every help.

Welcome to TPU!

For your first problem...

Chances are that when your motherboard was released, that the fastest CPU available was the 2.4Ghz...but over time, higher cpu's came by and worked on the board of yours. The support for cpu's from 2.4+ can be the results of bios updates.

also... there can be a chance that there was a "revision" done by intel for future boards to support higher than 2.4ghz.

now for you second problem...

if your bios has this option..."virus warning", disable it. This could have been preventing windows in write to the bios.

also...it is possible the your current bios is much older, and does not know about "bios express." It could be a feature on later revisions.

It doesnt hurt do a bios flash via msdos and a floppy. It little tricky, but there is a lot of nice graphical set-by-step guides to do so.

hope this info helps...

First Thank You for answer. The problem is, there is nothing about Viruses Control, I just checked the Bios menu. I downloaded bios user guide, also same for mobo. There is written with Bios newer then XXX.PO6 I can use P4 2.8Ghz 533MHz. Unfortunatelly my is PO3. I see untill I have old Bios I can only imagine work with new processor, maybe someone who has the same mobo can help me. Anyway, one more time thank You...:toast:

I think you have the same board I do!! It was a VPR Matrix computer from Best Buy, at least mine was back in '02.

I had the same exact problem, except my need to update was for stability reason, would randomly reboot.

My Intel D845EBT board has some stupid jumper I had to remove to update the BIOS, while this jumper was removed I put the update floppy in the drive, it displayed no video at all then beeped after a bit, I put the jumper back in, rebooted and BOOM, bitch was updated, took me damn near a year to figure out why it wouldn't work.

I think it was the CMOS config jumper, rather then move it to the second configuration, yank it out completely for the time being.

Get back to me with how it works out.

Hi mab!
I think that jumper's name is j9h3 (bios setup configuration jumper block), Intel just sent me an answer, read it plese:
"In regards to your questions:

1- You do not need to change the BIOS jumper to perform a BIOS update.
2- The BIOS update on your specific motherboard, needs to be performed using a floppy disk.
http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/standardbios.htm
Before, I tried witout touching jumper, from win environment also from diskette, but zero effect. Maybe last option, your option is gonna be the best. Anyway, my comp sees new processor 2.8 533, I don't have problems with temp, programs work correctly. Of course I will try upgrade that f... bios no matter what. Thank you for your answer, see you next time...

No problem, im really glad i could help, i figured no one deserves to suffer from be bad bios updates process of intel. took me damn near a year to figure out how to update so my computer would stop randomly restarting. :toast:

first mab and ktr, thank U for support :toast: ; problem with my computer was, this piece of s.... is made by gateway, so when I dowloaded new BIOS from Intel webside (my mobo manufacturer), it didn't match with my motherboard, why?? because Dell or Gateway likes to make our life harder and they change Bios a little bit. During reloading operation, I couldn't the error message (famous h48 and H01), only final: "flash update was unsuccessful". If somebody has comp made by Gateway or Dell, he must go to their website and from there download Bios. It is not necessary to remove jumper or change configuration, bios comes in standard position (1-2)...and that is the end of the subject:respect:

well gateway is fucking dumb :shadedshu , they "tattoo" they bios's with a manufactuers code before you can flash it, unlike HP where you use the "tattoo" tool after the bios update, unfortunaltely unless you find some tool the patch the bios file prior the flashing your out of luck. :banghead:

I ran into this issue with a client recently... :(

I agree, but that kind of information should be on Microsoft Website too, anyway my comp is ok with new bios, and I'm smarter in that case. Thx mab...
