ddr 400 vs ddr2 at other speeds.

can you put a ddr2 memory in a ddr computer, got a Dell it has ddr 400 with 2 512 sticks and i want to find 2 1gb sticks ... seems its kinda hard to find the ddr 400 stuff not as common or people just dont post it like the ddr2 stuff

any thoughts...

No, you cannot mix ddr1/2/3, they all have different slots.

then why does ddr cost around what a ddr2 does is there something im missing.... im new but it doesnt make sense that the old stuff costs around 20 bucks less than the ddr2

Usually older memory is more expensive. SDRAM>DDR>DDR2 and DDR2 > DDR3 in a short time.

No, you cannot mix ddr1/2/3, they all have different slots.

There are also combo boards that are compatible with two types of memories but still you could use only one at a time.

And the fact that it's hardly made anymore, certainly not in the retail quantities that are going to offer discounts to distributors for bulk purchases. There is probably some OEM market though for older server setups etc.

DDR = 184 pins
DDR2 = 240 pins

I thought the combo boards were only DDR2 + DDR3? Dunno perhaps not.

Yeah, but combo boards are few and far between.
