Another massive surprise for some despite the fact the card has terrible bandwidth... Common sense isn't common these days... Although truth be told, many here on TPU did say this was in fact an x70 or x60ti at best. It takes one poorly optimized title to bring it to its knees despite a powerful core.
Well, it's not like there are no games where 4070Ti is beating 3090Ti at 4K, i.e. AC Valhalla, Doom Eternal, Forza Horizon 5. The surprising part is how inconsistent the performance is.

What happened to the 4070Ti? Is it a bug or is that the actual performance? *cough 192bit cough*?

Funny, the original still looks great and runs on a literal potato.

You do know what "literal" actually means, no?

Unfortunately no. You may be able to power a small LED, but that's about it. Or, if you put a whole sack of potatoes in series, you may be able to power a small handheld device. You would need a whole farm to power a PC.

We've only had 3 next gen only games released on PC so far, Gotham Knights, Forspoken, and Dead Space. Dead Space is unquestionably the best of them.

I guess thats subjective but for me Plague Tale Requiem was the only game I've played so far that I would call next gen.
Thats the kind of graphics I would expect at least and that game did run on Ultra on my system with DLSS Quality better than some of these so called 'next gen' new games that look much worse.

Arguably Gotham Knight is like a downgrade to Arkham Knight in some ways and Forspoken I don't think that needs any explaining.

How is the game compared to the original? Did they change much apart from the graphics?

I have the original, but I've never tried it. I wanted to, but then I heard news of this coming out, and now I'm not sure which one to try.

They did some other changes, like you can backtrack on the ship now and some other minor stuff here and there but in overall they tried to stay true to the original.
Digital Foundry on Youtube has a good tech review on it, I would suggest watching that if you have ~25 mins spare time. 'not much spoilers to worry about if you never played the original'

Currently the game has VRS enabled by default and if you enable DLSS or FSR on top it ruins the texture quality but the devs are aware of this and a patch is coming soon supposedly.

Personally at this point I would just play the remake even tho I own the original and played it when it was new. 'tho I'm not buying the game till its on a sale'

60 FPS on RTX 4090 even with RT turned off at 4k.
I have nothing to say.
These guys probably don't care about optimization when they're making the game.
Also, the 192 Bit RTX 4070 Ti has already started to underperform.

Compared to what? The 3070 gets all of 12% more laughable fps yet costs 80% more at $635. For 1080p. The game is the turd, not either of these video cards.

it doesn't matter the graphics card, i'm talking about the game. I could have mentioned all the cards

I've just watched a comparison video that says the biggest change is that the developer took new voice actors and re-recorded their lines for the remake. What do you guys think about that?

Different engines, the 4070ti is vulnerable to whatever inefficiency the engine provides. We'll see how fixable that turns out to be. The fact still is, lower bandwidth will make itself known at some point. Cards with good VRAM and bandwidth relative to core power are simply better allround.

It's not surprising that a card with 12 GB of VRAM and no bandwidth has inconsistent performance at 4k....

they made a ton of changes. i am big fan of the franchise ive played the initial one multiple times and im playing through this one with an RTX 4080. They changed everything, maps, locations, visuals, voices, some quests, some quality of life improvements etc. Some items were changed dramatically like visuals, sounds, some quests, missions and locations, while others not as much like enemies game play or the story line. Also it runs amazing at 1440p at 125 ish fps with a 4080 all ultra/high with RTAO and no DLSS. With DLSS I get an additional 50 fps or so.
I think when piling in all the changes theyve made, it feels like a new game especially since i havent played the original since it released years ago.
Totally worth playing if you have a decent gpu. Also u can grab an offline steam account for like 12 bux on fleabay cause the game doesnt have any online functionality (just like the original)

edit : I recommend using headphones enable 3d sound in game , and turn the lights off. Make sure you have some spare underwear with you lol

So we need a shader butler for this game too.

Why can't the game compile all the shaders in the main menu? I can wait. If someone wants to experience #StutterStruggle then let them interrupt the process and load the game. It's so simple.

People don't want a good experience 10 seconds later. They want a shit experience now (or at least developers seem to think so). Look how many are crying about the increased POST time on AM5. It's sad.

You do know what "hyperbole" actually means, no?

'Hyperbole' and 'literal' are very different, although most people use 'literally' the wrong way - I still do in spoken english, annoyingly (I literally do it all the time [see how easy it is!]). Hyperbole is plain exaggeration. Using 'literally' means the statement is a fact. You can't really equate the two, as they break one another. To be frank, 'literal' is a stupid term; it's almost always used in the wrong context, and the few times it should be used, it's an unnecessary word.

Anyway, you can literally run Dead Space (OG) on a computer that's 10 years-old.
But you'd need a supercomputer to run the new version.

But you know this. :p

Hell, I had the disc for the OG, but I've got II & III in my digital library. Might DL II...

I was excited to play the game, but now, having played a bit, for some reason the excitement faded. I don't know why. I love Dead Space, always did, but I think it's the nostalgia speaking. For anyone who has never played it, it's the best way to experience it. And if your gaming rig can't quite handle it, I think the old one still holds up (or it's the nostalgia speaking again).

You do know what "hyperbole" actually means, no?
Apparently, you don't. Hyperbole - exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally. By using the word "literal" you are literally trying to convey the exact opposite of a hyperbole.

I have the original, but I've never tried it. I wanted to, but then I heard news of this coming out, and now I'm not sure which one to try.

I would play the original first and if you really like it then play the remake on harder difficulty, since Dead Space 1 is not super long, though I'm not sure if they altered the difficulties in some way in the remake. I think the original is safer bet due to the changes to voice acting in the remake, but I think both in the end will offer the same tension and survival. Horror though is something that can be hampered in remakes, because often things that create a scary atmosphere are hard to nail perfectly. Also the remake requires patching yet, so I wouldn't bother suffering through it if the greatness of the original is yet to be experienced. Some say the remake is in quite a good state, but others say otherwise.

It does... there is no shader compilation issue according to digital foundry. Its so simple, googling before you comment so you actually know what you are asserting is true.

Clearly you dont overclock your ram and cpu in bios, if you did youd understand why a 5 minute wait time 20+ times in a row can be frustrating

I have read the review under which I am commenting.

"At the game's first launch you get a screen "compiling shaders," which takes around 30 seconds—pretty fast, I was impressed. But as you proceed through the world, the game will suddenly start stuttering like crazy, for a minute or so. At this point it's obviously compiling another round of shaders."

So what is it? Does the shader compilation in the menu continue after the message disappears or what? Am I supposed to guess when all shaders have been compiled?
The only reason I wrote what I wrote was because of this quote.
