i have a dell printer 725, worked great on my old vista 64 bit...now i have windows 7 64bit on this new system. I don't think the printer is compatible but there has to be a way...i don't print that much so if i could get this working and save some money i would be happy. I have tried almost everything, and even tried to run it as windows XP compatible...got the blue screen of death lol....so any ideas would be helpful thanks!!

i guess they don't make the driver for windows 7 64bit... :( ...has to be some way around it

Did you try using those same Vista 64-bit drivers in Windows 7?, considering the majority of Vista drivers usually work well under Win 7 machines, it might work.

Now according to Microsoft's compatibility center. the Dell 725 will only work with the 32-bit version of Windows 7 and not 64-bit and they only included drivers for 32-bit Win 7, so it may in fact not be possible in your case if you're dead set on 64-bit under Win 7.

ya i like windows 7 64bit :( dam, i was hoping i could of got it to work.

so im out of luck?

Did you try using the Vista 64-bit drivers in Windows 7 to see that works?, also, when you tried the printer in XP compatibility mode did you have the XP drivers installed?, cause if not i'd give that a shot and see if it works.

Here some good info of people who have your printer and some info on getting it working:

If you get the XP 64-bit drivers and set them in compadibility mode, and install it, you should be fine. Had this problem at work. This worked for me.

Right click on the setup.exe file, left click properties, left click compatibility. Change the compatibility to XP(Try XP SP3). Then install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect the printer(powered on)

this is what cased the bluescreen

I know this probably won't work, but worth a shot: Try to use the drivers for a Lexmark z735.

You could try these drivers for a 720 printer for vista 64:Dell driver and downloads
Or, try obtaining a driver from the Microsoft Update Catalog. (You may need to use IE to access the site and download.)

As an alternative you may be able to use one of the other drivers for a printer similar to yours. Sorta like, A Cheese Danish pointed out.
It would be trail and error, but, if it works...:)

ill give it a shot

edit---didnt working , trying other printer drivers now...
