Did i make the right upgrade choice ??

So my system ive had for roughly 4-5 years. Spent 4000$ on it.. this includes.. over the top custom water ooling.. bose headphones.. moise. Keyboard chair etc..

I got a 2700x and 16Gb g.skill 3600.. and a 1080ti and x470 board with an evga 750 G2.

2 years later i upgraded to an x570 and 3800x. Fast foward 3 years in.. and well i wanted to upgrade again..

But the main issue was my viotek GN27DB 1440p curved monitor suffered from a common defect that causes it to get faint lines all ovee.. its some chip that goes bad on all samsung va panels.

I wanted to get a 7900xt video card. Or 7900xtx.. couldnt afford a 4080or anything like that. But 4 days before christmas i spent 250$ to get a new monitor.. eating into my video card money.. so 5 days ago i got a 6900xt with waterblock for 600$ instead. And i got a 5800x 3d for 295$ in microcenter.

I also decided to get more memory. For 32gb.. I have the g.skill trident z neo 3600 cl16. Seems even with 4 sticks i csn still oc the memory to 3733-1867 flck.. cant go higher though due to the 4 sticks.

Anyway. Im happy with my path.. but the 6900xt im not sure.. yes its way faster than my 1080ti... 3x more fps.. i was getting 40fps in total war warhammer 3 with high/medium details and shadows turned down.. Now im getting 130 same settings.. and with everything maxed i get 70-80 on the campaign map and more in battles usually.

But im starting to think... was this worth the 600$ ? Or should i resell this for 600-650 and use the 250 i got for my 1080ti to g3t a 7900xt instead. ?

I do technically owe someone 300$ which is my sale for my 1080tilol. But i could pay them back later. I am just feeling i made a wrong choice going to a 6900xt ? The other issue i guess is there are no 7900xt waterblocks yet either... And i like how the 6900xt came with a heatkillerblock for my custom watercooling system

What do you guys think ?

From where the 7900XT stands right now there's no reason why you'd take one over the 6900XT. It's still a basically unfinished product in terms of driver optimizations, and the MSRP is high.

If you happen to get a good deal on the 7900XT maybe, but I'd consider "good deal" to be $700-750. Not too sure about WB compatibility yet - EK lumps XT and XTX together apparently? The reference PCBs for XT and XTX are different, dunno if similar enough to be WB interchangeable

I only got one because RX6000 stock has all but run out in Canada. Otherwise I'd take a $900cad 6900XT in a heartbeat.

No, 600usd is just over 800cad, but 900 is what AMD's website was selling the 6900XT here for. 800 with WB sounds like a good deal to me. I just don't see why you'd feel any regret for not getting a 7900XT, based on how it's currently priced and currently performs. 7900XTX maybe, but it's scarce and price isn't great either.

That may change in the future, but that's irrelevant. Nothing wrong with 5800X3D + 6900XT.

Well its the first time in 20 years ive never had the latest and bought used. Partially due to inflated prices.. But yea..

Guess ill get over myself lol

6900XT is nothing to sneeze at, TBF Those who have RX 6800-6900XT or 3080ti-3090ti have no need to upgrade every generation

well ya but i went from a 1080ti i was skipping the 6000 for the 7000 but it seemed like such a dissapointment then my monitor got issues and well here i am.. but hey at least i got one at 600 and not the 1000$ they were at 4 months ago

I could see some -not a lot of- buyers remorse if you were going for a 7900 XTX or a 4080, and had the money for it. Sizeable performance increase compared to the 6900's, but also twice the price.

Last month I upgraded to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, and a Radeon RX 6950 XT. I don't see game playability being an issue for at least a minute.
