Microsoft has released an updated version of DirectX for June, although it isn't clear whether the update is just for DirectX 9.0c or for DirectX 10 on Vista as well. Regardless of this, it is still recommended that Vista users update their systems because Vista will benefit from any DirectX 9.0c fixes when playing DirectX 9 games. The web installer is only for Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 (both 32-bit and 64-bit versions), whilst the redistributable version will also work with Vista. The download links are listed below:
  • Web installer for Windows 2000, XP and 2003: download [44KB - 41.4MB]
  • Redistributable installer for Windows 2000, XP, 2003 and Vista: download [53.6MB]

yay, another download!

God, whats with MS lately? why so many updates?

lol they probs just thought "oh shit, now i remember what we left out, Do'h! " after finding a loose piece of paper with some notes on under the desk

Yeah but this is directX... and its almost monthly releases. In past years, DX was updated... well it was always a major update - 8.1->9.0 9.0 to 9.0C and such.

We have DX10, yet the updates are all for DX9.0C? Why is it still 9.0C if theres twenty damned versions of it?

The funny thing is people complain about the time MS takes to patch things, however when they make patches people still complain.

Lol, all people do is complain...

You got a pretty good point there :p.

little improvements made here and there. As the code begins to get refined, they see that they can still do this and that and add this and make it look like that and what not. They learned alot working on DX10, so of course, they want to apply some of those principles to DirectX9.0c. There is nothing wrong with updates and patches. I for one wouldnt be complaining about monthly updates from MS. Hell, anything to make my computer better and OS better while also improving gaming isnt a hamper on my day ::wink::

I believe they still will update DX9c for some time as there will be games made that still use that code. Eventually (not sure how long it will take) but most games will go to DX10 only.

I reckon DX9 will be like AGP. It will be around for a while...wont totally die out, but will get there.

the way current DX10 games are, DX9 path will be a neccesity, no arguing that. Its just annoying to have contsant releases under the *same name* (9.0c) why cant they call it D or E or F?

LOL, we'd be on DX9.0zav :p

that's right...keep telling yourself...

i personally dont understand why they didnt call it 9.1 when shader model 3 was introduced, after all, thats what they done with dx8

rofl. you have a point mussels. I guess they just like the look and sound of DX9c :)

Any problems? Hope not, I'll install it now anyways, like I've done the other 15 DX9c:s :)

Installed fine on my 3 systems, XP, Vista x86 and vista x64. None of the systems even asked for a restart.

Edit: AHAH! i know whats been niggling at me - WHY THE HELL WASNT THIS ON WINDOWS UPDATE.

No really - isnt DirectX big enough for windowsupdate? its never on there!

53.6mb for a directx update?? Damn, they better have fixed SOMETHING lol.

It's the time when 9.0 is released till the may of 2007.

Its not just an update people, its the FULL DirectX 9 with the latest updates :)

The web update version is just an update, but the redist version is the whole package - sort of like patches for some games, you can either upgrade from one version to the next or chose the huge download which contains everything.

I was refering to the Redist version since a friend asked about the size of 53.6mbs.

"9c Drew and the Hardy Boys" anyone?

So does everything run better now like magic?

I always love magic

I would love it if it could turn my nForce3 chipset into something else! Anything! As long as it can run Vista.

There are drivers for NF3 to run on vista. Aint got links, but i recall reading it on a lot of forums - Nvidia didnt have direct driver packages, but they used a mix of NF3 and NF4 drivers to make it work (32 bit only, i beleive)

My NF3 runs Vista fine... the built in Windows drivers seem to work ok.
