DirectX 10 will be available to Windows Vista users only at its introduction. You will not find DirectX 10 being released for the Windows XP operating system. DirectX 10 is deeply embedded into Windows Vista operation and we currently know of no plans by Microsoft to allow Windows XP to officially support the new API. Also embedded into Windows Vista is DirectX 9.0L to allow for compatibility with DirectX 9 components. Think of it like two separate DirectX systems.

Just a few words, microsoft is the #1 money eating machine that doesn't seem to quench its thirst. Big time *tooters*

i can believe that, and i was expecting microsoft to make me pay to play new games on there nice new OS. thing is guys that, come to the back end of 2007 most games companies will most likely drop support for DX9, so stop complaining and just get it to play those games you love, cos you know you are gonna have too!

and this is new news?, i think not.

Well hey trog found out how to get linux on Xbox, and it ran modern games pretty nicely, I don't see why we all just switch to linux.

Linux is a nice OS, but running windows developed games on it can be a problem. Most games that run on linux are openGL, so games like doom and quake are no problem. it the games that have been specially programmed for windows and directX that you cant run on linux. unless some nice person would like to get DX running on linux, most pc games will remain windows only. but there is some hope with Cedega, it runs windows games in linux, but make sure you have a quick pc and all the correct drivers or you aint gonna hit those FPS like you did in windows

its all in the future.. and quite a long way into the future.. so far i see lots of disadvantages with vista.. i am gonna have to find some really be advantages with vista before it comes anywhere near any machine of mine..

folks who buy oem boxes are gonna get lumbered with it.. there is no reason why anybody else has to thow.. not for at least a couple of years..

trog

DAMN YOU WINDOWS! They keep making our lives hard. Hopefully BF2142 will come out for XP!

Im sure you can count on that, Games always happin to be backwords compatible with a few older operating systems.

It wont happen. There will be a release for XP, windows always does it eventually. They say they wont to get people to buy Vista, but in the end they will cave and release an XP version. Nice "news" post. :)
