I have had constant crashes with Arduino, Discord, and some browsers for months I underclocked my CPU, RAM, GPU and it didn't help even reinstalling windows didn't help. today while trying to find something on Arduino crashing to a white screen I found someone mention that the new Arduino IDE is built on chromium, and this started ringing some bells because Discord is crashing and it is also based on chromium, so I started looking for chromium crashing on windows with AMD and found that Multiplane overlays have been a problem on windows for Nvidia in the past and now recently AMD and it can be fixed with a registry patch from Nvidia.

this is still an issue as it persists with fresh installs and driver updates. if you having discord and browsers crashing then you might need to do the same.

In a way its like turning off hardware acceleration in webbrowsers, which Ive been doing since Internet Explorer on W98, cpus have more than enough capability to run media functions without requiring the gpu being tasked

Speak for yourself, not all of them do. Even when they do, power draw and heat created might make CPU decoding quite unattractive.
Who are you? Only came on to write this...

Gpus do draw more power and produce more heat now, hardware accel in a browser is not needed and has shown to have weird operation at times, it really hasn't been fixed since the AGP days.

It hasnt been needed since the Launch of Skt 370 and Skt A

I've come here to correct people when I feel like they're wrong and I know better. :peace:

Not sure I'm gonna stay, I don't agree with how mods—I don't even know who, part of my complaint—have handled my posts so far.

But, maybe my post came off a bit more abrasive than I meant to: I'm traditionally running weak processors, we have some older machines in our family, and HW accel. is pretty much vital to have pleasure with high-res vids. (Or, conversely, there's suffering when decoders aren't available, 1080p60 AV1 on YT is dropping frames for sure, even p30 and p24 I've noticed at times.)

Tasking the iGPU is a no-brainer, even with a dGPU, it would be interesting to see actual numbers for power consumption.
Like, I wasn't berating you, your advice just isn't solid and lacking some qualifiers. :toast: HW accel. (even non-video) has been working plenty fine for ages for me, accross different systems; I'm gathering from your post you must have had issues with it, but why don't you see if they've been resolved? For anything with iGPUs, offloading rendering to the GPU should save power, the Firefox devs have tested this years ago.
