I'm wondering if all 7900GTs resellers stick to NVIDIA reference designs, or if they customise the hardware. Since I can't get hold of a XFX 7900GT Extreme Edition (www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/234568/art/xfx/geforce-7900gt-extreme-ed.html at 550/1630) due to stock delays I'm thinking of getting another version of eBay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=6868093228&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT.)
Now to my question - if the cheaper version clocks as high as the XFX, can I reflash it with the XFX firmware to "lock" the higher speeds? This should work fine if they both use the same hardware, right? I know I can use Coolbits etc to clock it higher, but a firmware flash is neater.
